Dwayne Harris totaled 222 return yards to help the Cowboys to victory. What It Means- The Dallas Cowboys now improve to 2-0 in the NFC East, and 3-3 overall, sitting atop the division with the Philadelphia Eagles. The ‘Boys are now 18-4 against the Redskins at home since 1992. Role Players Step Up- On a night when the Cowboys lost DeMarco Murray (knee) and DeMarcus Ware (quad) to injury in the second quarter, the Cowboys role players came up huge in big time situations to help the team win. Dwayne Harris was the star of the night with an 86 yard punt return for a touchdown, and another 90 yard kick return that set up a Cowboys field goal. Harris’s returns came at critical times when the Cowboys absolutely needed a response. He finished with 222 total return yards. Rookie wide receiver Terrance Williams continued his hot streak, showing off his amazing footwork in the back of the end zone to reel in a score for the second consecutive week. Tony Romo seems to be building some very good chemistry with Williams. Certainly, Williams will continue to see looks for weeks to come. Is he perhaps doing to Miles Austin what Austin did to Roy Williams in 2009? It sure seems so. Defensive Role Players Help Too -Role players also helped the Cowboys turn in their greatest effort on the defensive side of the ball this season. Kyle Wilber, yes, backup defensive lineman Kyle Wilber forced a Robert Griffin fumble while the Skins were backed up deep in their own territory. Two plays later, the Cowboys were able to cash the turnover into seven points. Nickel corner Orlando Scandrick also joined in on the party. Scandrick showed a valiant effort to stay on his feet after becoming tangled up with Santana Moss to intercept RG3. Cowboys fans have to be proud of the defenses resilient effort as several players went down to injury tonight. The decimated defensive line turned in a rather gutsy performance. Brandon Carr- Carr was basically lights out all night for the defense. He was rarely targeted by RG3, and when he was, his coverage was excellent. The Redskins basically stopped looking his direction for the majority of the night. What’s Next-The Cowboys (3-3) travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles (3-3) in a battle for first place in the NFC East. The ‘Boys swept the season series last year, and look to improve to 3-0 within the division. Monte Kiffin and Chip Kelly will face off for the first time this season. Keep in mind that Kiffin was basically fired at USC for failing to stop Kelly’s spread offense. That’ll surely be an interesting thing to watch for next Sunday.
