Here's a great get together question and potential money making trivia question among friends:What University has more players in the NFL than powerhouse schools like Michigan, Oklahoma, Auburn, Oregon, Notre Dame, Penn State, Nebraska, Florida, Florida State or even Alabama?Say hello to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, who have 35 players on NFL rosters. That ranks the Hawkeyes 8th in the nation for putting players on NFL rosters. A year ago it was 44 players, which ranked top five.In the last three seasons, the 18 draft picks out of the University of Iowa, ranks best in the Big Ten, and ties for third in the nation. We aren't talking back-end players either. There has been a Hawkeye taken in the first round in each of the past three drafts, Adrian Claiborne, Bryan Bulaga, and Riley Reiff. The drafted list further includes names like Dallas Clark, Pat Angerer, Jonathan Babineaux, Christian Bllard, Scott Chandler, Chad Greenway, Shonn Greene, Nate Kaeding, and Tyler Sash.We have all heard of running back U and linebacker U.Iowa is offensive lineman U.The 13 Iowa O-lineman drafted are most of any school in the past decade. What could make this feat more impressive? Outside of a few lineman, almost none, of the 35 drafted were blue chip recruits, but they became NFL caliber at the University of Iowa.It could be argued none of the 35 were blue chippers. The casual fan may not think of Iowa as a powerhouse school. Heck even Iowans, (or is it Iowanians? Or Iowegans?), don't think of their school as a powerhouse. Though they no doubt wish it.The NFL does recognize them.It doesn't seem high school recruits notice much either, as the A-list recruits continue to avoid Iowa. Why I do not know. With a great name like Iowa Hawkeyes and perhaps the best uniforms in all of sports, in addition to their prowess for developing NFL talent, the potential seems to be there. The black and gold with the Hawkeye emblem may elude the national spotlight, but NFL teams and scouts take notice.Want to wow your friends even more and coerce them out of a little more loot?Although not as impressive, as they do land some blue chip recruits a similarly clad team, The California Golden Bears, in their California Gold and deep Yale Blue, rank even higher.Find the full list of the top schools with players in the NFL slide show here: http://us-mg6.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.rand=64n1job445fc9#mailNote: The list was compiled before the free agency period began.
