Last preseason, the Dolphins had thought they found the right fit at tight end in former New York Jets player Dustin Keller.Keller was injured in a preseason game against Houston and never saw the field after only signing a 1-year contract. Charles Clay stepped in and played better than expected - winning over the coaching staff and the fans at Sun Life Stadium.According to NFL.com and Chris Wesseling, the Dolphins appear to be looking at free agent Jermichael Finley to bolster their tight end unit. The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have had conversations with Finley's agent and might be interested if the tight end is cleared to resume his football career.Coach Joe Philbin spent four seasons as Finley's offensive coordinator in Green Bay, so there's an obvious connection.Piggybacking on the Miami Herald report, however, Dave Hyde of the South Florida Sun Sentinel cautions that the Dolphins' level of interest at this time is strictly of the "we-want-more-information" variety. If Finley does gain medical clearance, Miami will consider a "low-dollars, low-risk" contract, per Hyde. With both Clay, who played all over the field for the Dolphins in 2013 as a tight end, running back, fulback and goal line back, and Finley - who could give Miami a small boost and it would be a major plus, the Dolphins may have another new ofensive weapon to work into the new game plan for 2014.The team also will not go above the $4.25 million contract they offered Keller last season. Seattle was the one team that appeared ready to make an offer to Finley early in fre agency, but since has backed off in its pursuit.
