There is a reason that the New England Patriots put the franchise tag on Wes Welker in 2012. The guy is that good and he was worth keeping at 9.515 million in 2012. Now he is listed as the 4th most valuable free agent this off-season. Welker had 118 receptions in 2012 for 1,354 yards and 6 touchdowns. The question the New England front office has to be considering this time around, is how much is too much. How much is a guy like Wes Welker really worth to the New England Patriots? Welker has always been a top receiver for the Patriots and I am sure wherever Welker goes he would be a valuable receiver. The guy has played in the NFL for 9 season and still shows no signs of slowing down. His production could be attributed to working with Tom Brady. The Patriots quarterback has always depended on Welker to  be there for him. If the Patriots do resign Welker they have to come up with a deal that will let him finish his career with the Patriots. That kind of deal is going to come with a hefty price tag.

  • If they let him go it will be the biggest mistake they could make. He is amazing. I have never seen such versatile, talented and devoted to his team. When he hurt his knee I watched him and he was crying it was not because of his pain. He was crying because in his mind he knew his team needed him and he was letting them down. He's the total package, only an idiot would let him go

A strong middle class? Three Patriots account for 35 percent of salary cap

Once upon a time in New England, it was a common phrase to say the Patriots had a strong middle class. The thought was to slightly overpay for players who would sign elsewhere due to lack of opportunities to start, thus creating depth or a “strong middle class.” However, when looking over the Patriots salary cap, there is one glaring contradiction. Tom Brady, Vince Wilfork...
