Despite a strong preseason from Jonathan Dwyer and rumors that Rashard Mendenhall may suit up, it is Issac Redman who will start the game in the Steelers backfield.
This figures to be a blurry picture on a weekly basis, but for this week, Redman is the only Steeler back worth starting. He is a fringe top 20-25 RB this week, but I do like to be the most productive RB in this game. He should be considered a better fantasy option than players like Shonn Greene and both running backs in Washington.
The Steelers have a reputation of sticking to the run, meaning Redman could see upwards of 20-25 touches and solid yardage totals. The Broncos ranked in the bottom third of the NFL when it comes to stopping the run, another reason to plug Redman in at your flex spot.
BEST OF MAXIM
Pittsburgh tailback Rashard Mendenhall will be inactive for Sunday night's tilt versus the Broncos. Mendenhall is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered near the end of last season.Fantasy Spin:Isaac Redman will get the start for the Steelers and figures to be a solid RB2 option until Mendenhall returns.
Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer was the team's leading rusher in Week 1, earning 23 more yards than Isaac Redman on two less carries.Fantasy Spin:Dwyer averaged 4.8 ypc to Redman's 1.8, finishing with 43 yards on nine carries. Redman had 20 yards on 11 carries, and both players had two catches. Neither is much of a fantasy option.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will start running back Isaac Redman Sunday night against the Denver Broncos as Rashard Mendenhall is still not fully recovered from a torn ACL.
Redman has rushed for 726 yards in two seasons.
The Steelers do not expect Mendenhall to be ready for the entire month of September, and are not counting on him to play this season.

The Steelers will attempt to get revenge on the Broncos’ for last year’s playoff defeat this week. While a lot of the focus will be on Peyton Manning as he attempts to return from injury, the Steelers have some injuries of their own. Right guard David DeCastro could be out for the season with a torn MCL. Running back Isaac Redman is expected to be limited, possibly all year,...
Mike Tomlin isn’t one who will let the cat out of the bag any sooner than he has too. If there is the slightest doubt about who should play or any reason to think that keeping a decision secret till the last minute will give his team an advantage, he’ll keep everyone in suspense. That’s precisely the plan heading into the season opener in Denver this Sunday night it would appear...

Forget about the offenses, it’s all about the defense for both the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers. Both teams look to disrupt the others offensive game plans with an aggressive pass rush. [Denver Post]
Honestly, I hope Rashard Mendenhall starts for the Steelers on Sunday. Players always tend to come back a week early and are largely ineffective that...
Two key Steelers players -- linebacker James Harrison and running back Rashard Mendenhall -- were both on the inactive list for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Harrison had minor surgery on his left knee last month, and was hoping to be ready for the opener. However, he missed practice Saturday at which point he was listed as doubtful. Harrison had nine sacks last season...
