If you play in IDP leagues like I do, you know there is nothing more frustrating that seeing your star linebacker get ten or more tackles, only to see seven were scored as assists and just three were solo. What if I told you that tackles are not an official NFL stat? Tackles for both teams are recorded by the home team’s official scorekeeper and submitted to the league. Why the league hasn’t done more to standardize this is beyond me. There are some teams that over the years have become notorious for awarding more assists than league average, teams like Indianapolis and San Diego in the past. When you play fantasy football, IDP or not, you try to find tools, statistical data, trends, or anything else to get a leg up on the competition. I have compiled the tackles awarded from each game through the season’s first eight weeks and broken them down by solos and assists awarded to both the visitor and home teams by the home scorekeeper. The teams highlighted in green were the team that gave out the fewest assists for the week and the teams in red were the teams that gave out the most assists. On the right you can see the total amount of tackles, both solo and assists, and the percentage of tackles that were recorded as assists. I separated the visitor and home teams here too just to see if any teams were leaning heavily one way or the other. On the far right it is a percentage of total tackles, both visitor and home combined, recorded as assists. I decided that anything more than 30% of total tackles being given as assists was too much and they have been highlighted in red. The grey signifies that team did not play at home that week. Richards: Reitz to Start

Over at The Indianapolis Star, Phil Richards reports on the continued shuffling of the Colts offensive line.  Indianapolis has dealt with so much injury and instability along the offensive line that when Joe Reitz finally came back from his injury, Arians chose to keep Jeff Linkenbach in for continuity.  Now Linkenbach is injured, and the shuffling begins anew.  The Colts started...

Rosenthal: Brown to Sit

As if the AFC game of the week couldn't get more confusing, it looks like Donald Brown, now listed as questionable, is probably not going to play against Miami due to swelling in his knee. Robert Mathis has been confirmed, however; good new for the Colts. I'm not overly concerned about Brown; we need him next week, and Ballard's done a good job filling in for him (along...

Colts Gallop Just Ahead of Dolphins, 23-20 and Move to 5-3

Colts Injury Report: Donald Brown, Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis

It looked like the Indianapolis Colts would have several key starters today against the Miami Dolphins, as linebackers Pat Angerer, Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis and running back Donald Brown were all listed as probable entering the weekend. However, Brown has been downgraded to questionable and he could miss today’s pivotal matchup due to a knee injury, reports ESPN. ...

Another big game by Luck helps Colts win

INDIANAPOLIS - It looks like Andrew Luck needed only half a season to establish himself as a worthy successor to Peyton Manning. Luck completed 30 of 48 passes for 433 yards and two touchdowns in the Colts' 23-20 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. The 433 yards set an NFL rookie record. Cam Newton had set the record with 432 yards last season. "...

Donald Brown Active For Colts

In a surprise move, Colts running back Donald Brown will be available to play Sunday against the Dolphins. Brown had been listed as doubtful with an injured knee.Fantasy Spin:Brown's impact should be minimal as Vick Ballard is slated to get the start for Indianapolis.

Luck makes history in win vs. Miami

Andrew Luck and Ryan Tannehill put on a memorable show for Chuck Pagano on Sunday. The rookie quarterbacks traded jab for jab, hook for hook and TD pass for TD pass. When the duel finally ended, it was Luck who had the records - and another win for his ailing coach. Luck threw for 433 yards and two TD passes, breaking Cam Newton's single-game passing record (422 yards) for...

Colts Outlast Dolphins, Improve To 5-3: Hero and Zero of the Game

When you are drafted with the first overall pick in the NFL draft there is going to be hype surrounding you. Andrew Luck is living up to that hype and exceeding it. On Sunday afternoon he showed just how good he is.Luck completed 30-48 passes for a rookie record 433 yards and two touchdowns as the Indianapolis Colts came from behind to defeat the Miami Dolphins. Key Matchups WK 8 - Dolphins.

After yet another close victory last weekend against the Titans, the Colts return home to welcome an equally surprising Dolphins team to Lucas Oil Stadium. The visit of Ryan Tannehill again pits Andrew Luck against a rookie counterpart, and (as is the case with Brandon Weeden) both quarterbacks have reason to lament the quality of receiver they're throwing to, so it should be...

Indianapolis Colts are surprise playoff threats, as are opposing Miami Dolphins

If the NFL playoffs were to start next week, today’s 1 p.m. matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the Miami Dolphins, both 4-3, would decide a wild-card spot. The two franchises were a combined 8-24 in 2011. But their surprising presences in the postseason conversation — albeit in a weakened AFC — go to show that the nature of the NFL game (and impressive rookie quarterbacks...
