Maybe the best thing Blaine Gabbert could have done last week was injure his ankle.Since the incident on Monday, which saw the third-year quarterback from Missouri on the ground for a short period of time and his ankle subsequently taped, all he has done is look sharper in the way he is letting the ball go in his delivery. That can only mean good news for the Jaguars. And after seeing the 6’4", 235-pounder in the scrimmage and working with the first-unit Monday, maybe the light bulb is bright and the vision is clear for the quarterback. But don’t completely buy into the Kool-Aid yet. We were saying the same things about Gabbert this time last season. The only difference is he has better toys to play with this year.Gabbert looked comfortable with the first-unit Monday morning, but that does not mean he is penciled in yet as the team’s starter. Chad Henne has practiced to an even pace with Gabbert, sometimes exceeding the younger study.Gabbert’s first week of training camp proved he may not be ready to assume the responsibilities of this team and its offense. But Saturday night may have been the turning point.Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley has not named a starter for Friday night’s preseason game with the Dolphins, but both Gabbert and Henne figure to get many snaps under center. In other Jaguars training camp notes...*Running back Justin Forsett was at practice without a boot on his foot. Forsett had sprained his big toe and was seen walking in a boot late last week. Notime table when he will get carries again.*Cecil Shorts appeared to have strained his calf and left practice early.*Alan Ball continues to have a great camp. The former Texan intercepted Gabbert in red zone work during the morning session.*Chad Henne was a solid performer as well on the field. In 11-on-11 drill he hit Brett Brackett on a 26-yard touchdown strike.*The Jaguars released Taylor Price (wide receiver) and Stephane Milhim on Monday, according to Jaguars.com.
