Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan said he would make moves for not only the Jags, but the city of Jacksonville as well. Khan put those words into actions recently sharing all of the improvements coming to Everbank field this upcoming season. The Jaguars have come to an agreement with the city of Jacksonville for a 63 million dollar upgrade. For years and years a staple when coming to Everbank field were the tarps covering the upper corners of the stadium, covering seats due to the team’s blackout problems. Finally the front office has found a way to change that. It has become official that the Jags will remove the tarps over the north end zone along with many of those seats. In place will be a platform full of unique interactive activities including pools, games, and much more. This platform however will not take away any seating from such games as the Florida-Georgia rivalry or the Gator bowl. Jaguars’ president Mark Lamping says this move is something the team has been looking at for some time now, and the move to remove the tarps is the most important decision for the stadium. However, on a day marked with big, big changes, the platform could not compare to the big plans the team has for their new scoreboards. The Jaguars will place two new scoreboards in each end zone measuring 55 by 301 feet, making the largest of their kind in the world. To coincide with these new scoreboards, Khan wants to enhance the team’s video capabilities to their maximum capacity. With that said, a new state of the art control room will be added to make all of these advancements possible. And as if these new additions weren’t enough, Khan will be placing two sideline boards, two displays over the tunnels, and another display over the North end zone. Overall, Shad Khan is telling the fans that the Jaguars will stay in Jacksonville, and that is most important. The excitement of these additions will only boost morale felt by the players, coaches, and fans and completely change the view the rest of the NFL has on the city of Jacksonville. It is clear that changing a stadium, and boosting fan morale will not instantly deem a team as a contender. But with Khan, Lamping, and Dave Caldwell, the Jags General Manager stepping up and making these bold moves, wins are sure to follow and all of the pieces are soon to come together.
