In a game that saw Matt Schaub throw for a career-high five touchdown passes and 547 yards, which equaled Warren Moon’s mark for second most in NFL history, the Houston Texans rallied for a thrilling 43-37 victory in overtime. The game undoubtedly answered some questions but perhaps raised a few more. Here’s what we learned from this game:Justin Blackmon will be a pain in Houston’s side for many years to comeAfter struggling to make an impact for his team all year, Justin Blackmon finally showed why he was the number one wide receiver taken in this year’s draft. Blackmon torched the Texans’ secondary for a total of 236 yards on 7 catches, a performance that ranks third best for a rookie in NFL history. With a possible quarterback controversy brewing, you have to wonder if Blaine Gabbert hasn’t been holding Blackmon back all this time. If Chad Henne gets the nod again, Jacksonville may have found a solution to their offensive woes and the receiver they had hoped for when they drafted Blackmon. Which brings us to... Chad Henne should be the starting quarterback in JacksonvilleHow much longer will the Jaguars wait for Gabbert to develop as a starter? It’s almost as painful to watch him play as it is for him to throw right now. Judging by the way Henne played, the Jaguars front office will need to reassess the situation this week.Obviously they have the weapons to help Gabbert succeed so maybe it’s time they swallowed their pride and cut bait on their former first-round draft pick. Sure they spent a lot to move up in last years draft in order to select him but enough is enough, don’t the fans in Jacksonville deserve to see a competitive product on the field?Speaking of being competitive...The Texans answered some of their critics that think they aren’t able to overcome mistakes that force them to play from behind. Sure, it was against a Jacksonville defense that has been one of the worst in the league this year, but coming back from a 14-point deficit early in the fourth quarter showed the confidence and grit of a championship-caliber team.Costly turnovers on the offense and poor tackling on defense will need to be addressed before Thursday’s game in Detroit, though, if Houston wants to keep up their hopes of lifting the Lombardi trophy at the end of the year. Better teams will bury the Texans if they continue to play that poorly.Andre Johnson still has itSure, he just turned 31 in July, but Andre Johnson showed why he is still one of the best receivers in the business as helped lift the Texans to a win with a career day of 14 catches for 273 yards (also a team record) and capped it off with the game winning 48-yard touchdown reception.Fantasy football owners were no doubt ecstatic at being rewarded for their patience after a frustratingly slow start to this year. With more than ten targets in each of his last five games now, Johnson owners should be feeling more confident heading toward their playoffs.Schaub and the Texans have learned how to finish gamesComing into this game, the Texans were 1-7 in overtime games, a fact Matt Schaub has no doubt been painfully aware of. In years past the Texans have been criticized for not finishing off games, today Schaub proved once again that he can shake off poor play and put the game on his shoulders. While Schaub hasn’t been asked to throw as much this year since the Texans have relied heavily on Arian Foster and the ground game, Schaub’s 547 yards and five touchdowns are a reminder that only three years ago he led the league in passing yards (4,770), completions (396), yards per game (298) and passing attempts (583). Can anyone say elite?
