Not the direction one wants to see a team go. Mr. Smith has been with the organization since the beginning in 1995 as a Scout and worked his way up the ladder to become the GM, and signed a three-year extension in the off-season. But is his time nearing an end? And more important, should it be?

Smith has had four years of player and talent acquisition for the Jaguars. He has had four drafts with a total of 26 picks, 20 of whom are still on the team.… Read more

Will Jay Cutler and MJD kiss and make up?

The Chicago Bears take on the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, and as Mike Florio of Pro Fottball Talk reminds us, Maurice Jones-Drew wasn't quite nice to him on Twitter when he questioned his toughness for the world to see. “All I’m saying is that he can finish the game on a hurt knee… I played the whole season on one.” Jones said on Twitter after Cutler took himself...

Jaguars sign return specialist Michael Spurlock

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed receiverreturn specialist Micheal Spurlock and promoted defensive end Ryan Davis from the practice squad. The team waived offensive lineman Daniel Baldridge and defensive end Aaron Morgan. Spurlock has played in 46 games during stints with Arizona, Tampa Bay, San Francisco and San Diego. He has two kickoff returns...

Maurice Jones-Drew won’t promise that he won’t hold out again

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew told Albert Breer of the NFL Network that he’s not going to hold out again. “I’m not gonna hold out again,” he said with conviction, on his day off Tuesday. Then Jones-Drew slightly back tracked and said that he could end up changing his mind. “I don’t think so, I wouldn’t do that. I don’t think I would. I mean...

Laurent Robinson and Daryl Smith Out Sunday

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Laurent Robinson and linebacker Daryl Smith have been ruled out of Sunday's game against Chicago, according to the Bradenton Herald. Robinson suffered his third concussion this season on Sunday, which was his second in two weeks. Smith will not play against the Bears with a groin injury. Robinson signed a five-year, 32.5 million contract with...

Jaguars failing to sack opposing QBs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are baffled by their lack of sacks. The Jaguars have an NFL-low two sacks through four games and have failed to get an opposing quarterback to the ground the last three weeks. They sacked Christian Ponder twice in the season opener at Minnesota, but have been shut out since. For a franchise with numerous on-the-field issues, this...

Pre-season holdout not affecting Maurice Jones-Drew

Widely expected to have a precipitous drop off in production after refusing to report to off-season workouts and training camp, Maurice Jones-Drew has pushed aside all of the critics and doubters through the first four weeks of the season, averaging nearly 4.9 yards per carry en route to 352 yards and one touchdown. Jones-Drew recently spoke at length with Albert Breer at NFL.com...

Tarp removal illustrates smart business

The Jaguars don't look like a very good football team right now, but at least the business side of the team seems to have it together. Jaguars president Mark Lamping announced today that the Jaguars are uncovering section 403 for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears. We’re pleased with demand for tickets for this game and we’re thrilled to be...

Bear Breakdown: Analyzing the Jaguars' Defense for Week Five

In 2011, the Jacksonville Jaguars quietly posted the league's sixth-best total defense, allowing only 313 yards per game.  Fast forward a year later and a Jaguars defense that is virtually the same on paper as last year has the 26th-best defense in the league, giving up over 400 yards per game. The major bright spot for the Jaguars on defense is defensive end Jeremy Mincey...
