Stressing that the Jacksonville Jaguars remain committed to QB Blaine Gabbert, GM David Caldwell says that Blaine will see his share of competition in 2013.
"It's going to be a wide-open competition," Caldwell said at the NFL Combine, via NFL.com.
One player we know he'll compete with in the offseason is Chad Henne, but the team also says it will bring in one or two QBs through free agency.
A few weeks ago, quarterbacks coach Frank Scelfo said that after a slow two-year start, Gabbert is ready, and that if he were in the 2013 draft class, he'd be the top guy. If you graded him out right now, this is his draft class. If he were coming out -- and the quarterback draft class the way it is -- would he be the top guy taken? I think the answer is yes."
Caldwell was asked about that assessment.
"I can't really predict what 31 other teams would do," he joked. "But there are some really good things to get excited about with Blaine in terms of his size, his arm strength and athletic...
