The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran wide receiver Lee Evans on Sunday and signed sixth-year receiver Demetrius Williams
The team also placed third-year wide receiver Taylor Price on injured reserve with a foot injury and signed guard/center Josh Beekman.
Evans signed as a free agent with the Jaguars in April after he was released a month earlier by Baltimore.
Evans could have helped the Ravens earn a trip to the Super Bowl but dropped a pass in the end zone in the final minute of January's AFC championship game against the New England Patriots. The Patriots won 23-20.
Evans played seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills before joining the Ravens in 2011.
In his eight-year career, he has 381 receptions for 6,008 yards and 43 touchdowns.
Evans' two best seasons came in 2006 and 2008. He had career highs in 2006 when he caught 82 passes for 1,292 yards. Two years later, he topped the 1,000-yard mark again with 63 receptions for 1,017 yards. He has 14 career 100-yard receiving games, eight multi-TD games and 57 receptions of 25-plus yards.
Evans and Laurent Robinson were signed as free agents during the offseason in hopes of bolstering a Jaguars wide receivers corps led by Mike Thomas' 44 catches in 2011.
While Robinson has become the team's No. 1 receiver, Evans has seen limited action in training camp and was running behind several of the Jaguars' younger receivers.
Evans did not play in Friday's preseason game against the New York Giants.
The 6-foot-2 Williams has played in 46 games with four starts since entering the NFL as a fourth-round pick of the Ravens in 2006. He spent four seasons with the Ravens (2006-09) and caught 63 passes for 1,008 yards and four touchdowns.
Two of his four career touchdown receptions are from 70-plus yards, with a 77-yard score in 2006 and 70-yard catch in 2008.
Price has played in six career games, with five receptions for 80 yards. He was drafted in the third round by New England in 2010.
The Jaguars claimed him off waivers on Dec. 6, 2011, and he played in two games for Jacksonville late last season.
Price suffered a foot injury that limited him during spring drills. He played in the Giants game Friday but did not have a reception.
Beekman entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 2007.

Jags DTs Knighton, Alualu have tough competition
Terrance Knighton and Tyson Alualu have been fixtures as starters at defensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars for two years.
Knighton has started all but three games the last three years. Alualu hasn't missed a start since the Jaguars made him their No. 1 pick in the 2010 draft.
Things could be different this year.
Both are being challenged for their jobs by a pair of...
Maurice Jones-Drew isn't "popular" with fans anymore
We've all heard about the ongoing contract dispute between Maurice Jones-Drew and the Jacksonville Jaguars' front office. It comes down to a couple of contradicting beliefs. Jones-Drew believes that he deserves more money after leading the NFL in run yards last season, and the Jaguars believe he should honor the remaining two years on his contract before they begin negotiating...

Even if Gabbert flops, Barkley won't be in Jacksonville
There's an elephant in the room that I'd like to address. It was put there by the national media, and I'd like to push it back out the door.
That elephant, of course, is the idea that if Gabbert doesn't pan out, the Jaguars will have the opportunity to draft Matt Barkley to replace him.
That's simply not going to happen.
The Jaguars are a solid team with...

QB Breakdown: Blaine Gabbert
Blaine Gabbert…..another struggling, average quarterback.
Blaine Gabbert had a pretty rough season last year. The Jaguars ended the regular season with a 5-11 record and Gabbrert put up very poor stats. Gabbert only had a completion percentage of 50.8, not to mention he also threw 11 interceptions and had 5 fumbles. He also only threw for 2,214 yards and ended the...
Jaguars OG Jason Spitz To Miss Rest Of Preseaon
The Jacksonville Jaguars have taken a beating on the injury front on their offensive line, especially on the interior. Offensive guard Jason Spitz injured his foot in the first week of training camp and has been out for at least a full week, but head coach Mike Mularkey revealed on Sunday after practice that Spitz will be out anywhere from four to six weeks with his injury. Gabbert must overcome the negativity
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert wasn't on the field for one of the most valuable football lessons he has ever received:
Don't let yourself become affected by outside criticism.
Five games into his 2008 freshman year at the University of Missouri, the Tigers were on the cusp of a No. 1 poll ranking. Starting quarterback Chase Daniel was the toast of Columbia...

Giants start year off with bad, bad loss
Talk about starting off on the wrong foot! The Super Bowl champs folded down the stretch, allowing the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars to squeak out a 32-21 victory. There were bad decisions made.
