He's a 3rd string TE. Are you serious.
Those following the NFL Draft on Friday probably had to do a double take when they saw the Jaguars selected Cal punter Bryan Anger with the seventh pick in the third round. It was a pick for which the Jags came under fire — these days taking a punter that early is rarely seen. Even the team’s own players were critical of the selection. Here’s what tight end Zach Potter had to say:
Potter has since removed that tweet. That was probably when he finally realized he was actually going to be teammates with Anger.
In the Super Bowl era, only 19 punters have been drafted in the first three rounds. Todd Sauerbrun, the last punter selected higher than Anger, went to the Bears at the 24th pick of the second round in 1995. Ray Guy, of course, was a first-round pick by the Raiders in 1973, but then again, that’s the Raiders for you.
Anger certainly has some impressive credentials. He was an All-Pac-10/12 selection for the past three years. He also nailed 90 kicks inside opponents’ 20-yard line...

Jags TE rips team's draft pick
Jaguars tight end Zach Potter had some not so nice things to say after seeing who the team drafted in the third round.
Is Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan the new Toxic Avenger?
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid R. Khan is new to the NFL’s ownership group. Like most super-successful moguls, there are cries that he stepped over some people and left others in the dust.
In his case, the dust is more like potentially deadly toxic fumes.

Ex-Jags Owner Wayne Weaver Auctioning His Frat House; $5.5M
The last time we heard from Wayne Weaver he was selling the Jacksonville Jaguars for $760 million and heading off into the sunset to live out his life without the thought of Blaine Gabbert throwing another INT. Now comes word that Wayne is saying “F-it, I’m unloading my 14,000 sq. ft. frat house.” Dude is 77 and was asking $10 million. The Buy It Now price is now $5.5 million...
Jaguars waive 6, including reserve RB Karim
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have waived six players, including running back Deji Karim.
Also waived were linebacker JoJo Dickson, linebacker Stephen Franklin, linebacker Jammie Kirlew, defensive back Trumaine McBride and place-kicker Sam Swank.
The Jaguars parted ways with those players to make room undrafted rookies signed following the NFL draft.
Karim...
Jaguars draft 28-year-old Pendleton in 7th round
The Jacksonville Jaguars have drafted 28-year-old defensive tackle Jeris Pendleton in the seventh round.
The team has an unsettled situation at defensive tackle, with Tyson Alualu coming off knee surgery and fellow starter Terrance Knighton out for the majority of the offseason following eye surgery.
Pendleton is a 328-pound run-stopper who wanted to attend Michigan State out of...
Jacksonville Jaguars select Andre Branch, Grade A
I have been critical of Jacksonville Jaguars GM Gene Smith in the past, but he’s putting together a nice draft this year.
Andre Branch was the top defensive end on the board, and should make immediate impact in Jacksonville. They needed to add a young end to improve their pass rush, and Branch can definitely be that guy. He’ll likely be used as part of a rotation early in his...
Blackmon sits out Jaguars practice
Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon sat out the final day of rookie camp because of a sore right foot.
The Jaguars drafted the former Oklahoma State star with the fifth pick in last week's NFL Draft, hoping he can upgrade the league's worst offense.
Blackmon spent the first two days of the three-day camp getting familiar with coaches, teammates and plays. He spent...
Karim among five cut by Jags
Running back Deji Karim was among five players released by the Jaguars. Karim was Maurice Jones-Drew's backup after Rashad Jennings was injured, but managed just 160 yards on 63 carries and lost his role to DuJuan Harris by the end of the season. Linebackers JoJo Dickson, Stephen Franklin and Jammie Kirlew, defensive back Trumaine McBride and kicker Sam Swank were also released.
Jaguars Release Punters Nick Harris, Spencer Lanning
The Jacksonville Jaguars have released punters Nick Harris and Spencer Lanning, Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reports. Jacksonville selected Cal punter Bryan Anger in the third round (70th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft, making both Harris and Lanning expendable. A longtime member of the Detroit Lions, Harris replaced Matt Turk midway through the 2011 season, averaging...
Jaguars release 2 punters
The Jacksonville Jaguars, who drafted punter Bryan Anger in the third round of the NFL Draft on Friday, have released two punters who were on their roster, Nick Harris and Spencer Lanning, according to the Florida Times-Union. The Jaguars drafted Anger, who played at Cal, with the 70th pick of the draft. That is the earliest a punter has been drafted since 1995. Harris, an...
Jaguars RB Deji Karim Among Six Players Placed On Waivers
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they have placed six players on waivers, including 2010 sixth round pick Deji Karim. In 23 games over the last two seasons, Karim has 98 carries for 290 yards, 17 receptions for 130 yards out of the backfield, and has averaged 24.7 yards on 77 kick returns. Karim has fumbled five times, though none have been recovered by Jaguars' opponents...
Jaguars draft Cal punter Anger in 3rd round
The Jacksonville Jaguars have made one of the NFL draft's biggest surprises, selecting Cal punter Bryan Anger in the third round.
He's the highest punter drafted since 1995, when the Chicago Bears chose Todd Sauerbrun in the second round.
Anger averaged more than 44 yards a punt in 2011, and had at least one punt of 50 yards or more in 11 games.
But is he good enough to...

JagNation All A Buzz About Blackmon
The Jaguars passing game was the worst in franchise history a season ago. This offseason was spent addressing their deficiencies at wide receiver and there should be a significant boost in the fall.
