From NESN:

The Jacksonville Jaguars really upset some of their fans when they drafted punter Bryan Anger with their third-round pick on Friday night. One player was even so appalled that he sent out a tweet.

Zach Potter, who is a third-string tight end for Jacksonville, took to his Twitter account and shared his displeasure with the masses:

Potter later deleted that tweet. He finished the 2011-12 season with 50 yards on five catches.

Anger was a three-time all conference player for Cal in the Pac-12. He became the 20th punter selected in the first three rounds of the draft since the Super Bowl era.

50 Comments:
  • Can you blame him. That punter would have been available in the 7th round. Jags really blowing this draft.
  • With players like Potter they need a good punter.
  • Zack Potter should be happy. Smith could have drafted a tight end to replace him. This punter could be another Ray Guy and if he is then he's worth the pick.
  • Typical Jags stupidity. I realize the punter is important for field position, but with all the needs the Jags have, a punter? are you kidding me? How about some O-LINE to protect Gabbert so maybe he can get the ball to Blackmon and Co? He was running for his life last year.
  • I think the Jags made a helluva pick!!

  • 50 yards on 5 catches all season? this guy is lucky he still has a job! Shut up and play football.
  • He'll get one snap for every three that Blaine Gabbert takes. That makes him the second most important player on the team :/
  • Right on Chief, they don't call it football for nothing! Punting is the Origin of the game. Ask any NFL if the Punter plays an important roll. They'll tell you how the Punter has bailed them out again and again and again.
  • Where was he last year when the Jags wasted a first round pick on Blaine Gabbert. There aren't enough O'Linemen in the league to make this guy man up and act like a QB instead of running around avoiding contact.
  • you're not going to have a qb if you do that. look at the bears awhile back. their qb took some hits and "manned up" and then he was out of the game with a broken wrist. dont be so stupid.
  • A "third" string tight end, complaining?
  • shout your mouth! 5 catches 50 yrds? no body cares what you think!
  • and nobody cares about your stupity
  • With this pick, the Jags are now the favorite to win the Super Bowl this year.
  • What?? who in the heck is Bryan Anger??? I will tell you, he is a nobody,a third sting player shooting off his big mouth. If he was worth anything he wold not be third string. LMAO
  • Bryan Anger is the punter they drafted. Your comment indicates that you think he's the 3rd string tight end who was complaining. Anger has been compared with the best punter who ever played the game,Ray Guy, who was drafted by Oakland in the first round. Field position!! Punted 60-70 yards, 6-7 seconds in the air.
  • What a moron your a 3rd STRING player STFU.

JAGS are you serious if he's the best punter alive reach in FIFTH at the highest
  • gutsy call, hope it works out for them. Looks like they won't need a third string tight end, lol, lol, lol.
  • was JOE SPISHKUDNIK FROM SLIPPERY ROCK , PICKED YET?
  • HE'S A LINEBACKEWR-PUNTER
  • I don't understand all the criticism of Potter for saying this. He only said what everyone was thinking. Each comment on here questions the Jags making that pick, yet you same IDIOTS wanna criticize him because he's a player? Laughable and ironic!
  • because he is a 3rd string te with 50 yrds cobtributed to his team last year, he has no reason to be bitching he should only be thankful for the jags not to find someone to replace his waste of talent ass
  • tight end, hmmm, arent they supposed to block?

  • And what qualifies you to complain? What sting are you?
  • You're right everyone needs to STFU, he is at least PART of the team and the one this ACTUALY effects, its not your paycheck that could be effected by a few bad punts.
  • It won't matter to Potter ... he is going to be out of the NFL this week. Perhaps he doesn't realize that a great punter is more valuable than a third string TE with 5 catches.
  • 50 yds? 5 catches? Are you kidding me?
  • How many yards and catches did you have in the NFL?
  • hey Jags get ahold of the Patriots,WE got a bunch of 3 to 8 round recivers that are doing much better than this 3rd round joke..even our non receivers have more catchs and yards..ha
  • this guy is a super punter, if he proves to be a defensive weapon, the jags fans will love him. Who knows who may have picked him in four, five, or sixth round. jags have bigger problems than taking heat for this pick. I hope he kills em
  • A 3rd string Tight End criticizing a 3rd round Punter???? Gee, who do you think is going to be on the team at the conclusion of this year's traing camp?
  • I think when he signs the checks then he can open his mouth. until then? just focus on your own as a team!!!
  • He only had 50 yards because no one was blocking up front for Gabbert. waste of a pick.
  • This kid is going to be as good or better than Robey or Guy...maybe if he puts some weight on he could be the 3rd string TE, he's 6'6" and runs a 4.4 and has a 36" vertical! Watch out Potter!
  • 5 of what, this guy might be the future at this position. If he caught 5 out of 5 thrown his way, no wonder they are keeping him, he's good trade material.
  • For all you morons defending this pick, whats so hard to understand that this guy would have been available 2 or 3 rounds later? They could have gotten some OL help for Gabbert here!
  • Since when does using the term "seriously" constitute getting lippy? And since when does the term "lippy" still get used? You don't happen to be June Cleaver do you?
  • I guess my question is this- everyone is so upset Potter complained because he is only a "3rd string TE" to which I ask what then qualifies all of you to bitch and moan on here like you are? Is it because you are all first string computer dbags? When did you play in the NFL? I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume your "playing days" ended in middle school when you were cut from the B team. Why is Potter not allowed to voice his opinion about a coworker anyway? It's not his fault his job just happens to be followed by millions of grown men like yourself who didn't make it anything and instead choose to take their anger out from behind the safety of their Dell computers in their miserable little "man caves."get a life, losers. And try not to think about the one Potter is leading in FL with his hot wife because he's got something the rest of you don't - talent. Enough talent at least to be one of the few who make it to the pros.
