The Jacksonville Jaguars have traded receiver Mike Thomas to the Detroit Lions for an undisclosed draft pick. Thomas signed a three-year extension worth $18 million last October. The deal includes $9 million guaranteed. The trade makes sense for both sides. The Lions (3-4) lost receiver Nate Burleson for the season last week, so Thomas gives them depth behind Calvin Johnson, Titus Young and rookie Ryan Broyles. And the Jaguars (1-6) get a draft pick for a player who clearly has fallen out of favor with a new coaching staff. First-round draft pick Justin Blackmon and second-year pro Cecil Shorts III passed Thomas on the depth chart, and the Jaguars recently stripped him of his role as punt returner. Thomas has 13 receptions for 80 yards this season.

Acquisition of WR Thomas Gives Lions Depth

The Detroit Lions acquired wide receiver Mike Thomas from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a mid-round pick earlier this week. The Lions employ three and four receiver sets often on offense, so the desire to obtain more depth at the position is understandable.

Mike Thomas Shipped To Detroit

Wide receiver Mike Thomas has been traded from Jacksonville to Detroit in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. Fantasy Spin: Thomas could not pass Cecil Shorts on the Jaguars depth chart, and we dont expect him to benefit from a fresh start with Lions. So in other words, Thomas should not be a threat to Titus Young or Ryan Broyles from a fantasy perspective.

Jacksonville Jaguars trade WR Mike Thomas to Detroit Lions

Trade for Jaguars: Mike Thomas caught 63 passes for 820 yards and 4 touchdowns as a 23 year old receiver in 2010, but it’s all gone downhill since there and he has just 13 catches for 80 yards this year, buried behind Justin Blackmon, Cecil Shorts, and Laurent Robinson on the depth chart. Given that [...]

Mike Thomas Has Difficult Road Ahead in Attempting to Replace Nate Burleson for Lions

The loss of Nate Burleson didn't sting too much during the Lions' 28-24 win over the Seahawks on Sunday. But, make no mistake, Burleson's absence is a big deal in Detroit. Mike Thomas, the Jacksonville Jaguars' exiled wide receiver, will now be charged with helping to fill the Lions' void at receiver -- a hefty task, even on the NFL's...
