It’s about to get a little hotter down here in Jacksonville. The long-awaited decision by Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley on who will start the team’s preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins is a mere hours away. No, this is not a make or break decision - this is the preseason. But what Bradley has to say in the press conference to announce his starter will tell us all a lot about what the path the Jaguars take this season will be.If the team is going to bank on Chad Henne (and I think it is a decent move one way or the other), then the team knows next season, there will be a new quarterback in town, the Blaine Gabbert Era in Jacksonville is over and someone like a Stephen Morris could the team’s top pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. In other words, it could be a long season where the team and its management already knows this is a building process of three years or more.Looking out on the field, I don’t see a team that is worried about rebuilding. I don’t see a team that is worried about newness. They are hungry. A bit banged up right now, but hungry. That might be the best thing they can be.The media is often too quick to judge, make a prognostication or try and analyze something that is just not there. This time, to elephants in the room stand over 6’4” tall and are waiting for their opportunity, but not taking advantage of it.Both players will see plenty of action Friday night against Miami. It just means one will take the first snap of the preseason. The other may take the last.In other news...* Wednesday was the first time we saw Mike Kafka get a significant time behind center. Kafka, a free-agent signee from New England, is fighting to be the third quarterback on the roster.* The Jaguars will not play Cecil Shorts against Miami. The star receiver has a pulled calf muscle and the team is being cautious.* The Jaguars signed wide receiver Charly Martin off waivers from the 49ers. Martin was signed because of the injury to Shorts and the fact Justin Blackmon is still nursing a groin injury.* It has not been decided if Maurice Jones-Drew will play Friday night. It is customary that the star running back does not see the field in the opening preseason game, but that is a decision to be made by Bradley.
