Jason Buck, a former college football star who won a Super Bowl ring with the Washington Redskins in 1992, announced Thursday that he will seek the Republican nomination for Utah's 2nd Congressional district. "I can no longer stand by while Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and others destroy the fabric of our government and run up huge amounts of debt," Buck said in a statement, cited by The Salt Lake Tribune. "I'll fight for a leaner, smaller and constitutionally limited federal government -- one that is pro-free-market, pro-taxpayer, pro-family and fiscally sound." Buck will need to beat fellow conservatives Cherilyn Eagar, Chris Stewart, Howard Wallack, John Willoughby, David Clark and Chuck Williams for the GOP nomination to contest the seat. Buck was a standout at Utah's Brigham Young University in the mid-1980s where he won All-American honors and the Outland Trophy, awarded to the country's best interior lineman. He was picked 17th in the 1987 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He moved to the Redskins in 1991 and earned a Super Bowl ring in the teams victory over the Buffalo Bills in 1992. He retired after the 1993 season. Living just south of Salt Lake City, Buck is the co-owner of the Arena Football League's Utah Blaze franchise.

Spike Lee gives Obama special Air Jordans

President Barack Obama and film director Spike Lee might root for different NBA teams, but that didn't stop them from coming together Thursday night for the same cause. The President attended several fund-raisers in New York City Thursday evening -- one of which at Lee's house. While there, Obama, along with his wife, Michelle, received a specially made pair of Air Jordans...

President Obama briefly croons Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together' on Apollo stage

NEW YORK -- President Barack Obama took a brief and unexpected turn as a soul singer at a New York fundraiser, crooning a bar from an Al Green classic and then joking that he hadn't been ushered offstage.

Editorial: State of disunion: President Obama must make divided government work

The conventional wisdom is that the final year of Barack Obama's first term will be a continuation of the partisan stalemate that left voters across the political spectrum suspended somewhere between despair and disgust as 2011 wheezed to a close.

Obama is crooner-in-chief

Has President Barack Obama found his re-election campaign song? On Thursday night, during a campaign fund-raiser at Harlem's Apollo Theater, the president crooned a line from Al Green's hit "Let's Stay Together" while thanking the soul singer for warming up the crowd at the event.

Obama's speech to frame debate

Spike Lee Gives Barack Obama Pair of Air Jordan Spizike Shoes (Pictures)

Forgive me for not respecting Barack Obama as a sports fan.  He is the Commander in Chief of the United States of America, so in a certain sense I respect him for that.  But as we have seen recently on more than one occasion, sports and politics don’t always mesh.  Oftentimes in the past, the President has been no exception. Obama claims to be a White Sox fan, yet he couldn’t...

The World Champion St. Louis Cardinals Visited The White House

As I pointed out last week, President Barack Obama just loves having sports champions visit him at the White House, so it came as no surprise when the St. Louis Cardinals popped in yesterday to be honored for winning the 2011 World Series. As he does with all of his champion guests, Obama praised the Cardinals for a variety of reasons, but most notably he called them the greatest...

Editorial: Keystone XL pipeline collides with politics

President Barack Obama's rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline resulted from a series of flawed processes, the lack of anything that passes for an energy policy and idiotic politics. Both those cheering his decision and those bemoaning it have some points on their side -- but neither ends up looking very good.

Obama to make metro Detroit stop next week

President Barack Obama will be visiting metro Detroit again at the end of next week, wrapping up a three-day, five-state tour following his State of the Union address to Congress on Wednesday night.

Romney shines bright light on secrets of the rich

Mitt Romney seems to have spent his last week in South Carolina making sure that Barack Obama and the various super PACs underwriting Obama's re-election bid have video for all the anti-Romney spots they can afford to air next fall.

Stephen Strasburg Makes List of Top 50 Most Powerful People in Washington, D.C.

Barack Obama, eat your heart out. Washington, D.C. is Stephen Strasburg's town. In all fairness, GQ opted not to include President Obama or Vice President Joe Biden in their list of the 50 Most Powerful People in Washington, D.C. However, the fact that Strasburg made the cut after pitching only 24 innings last season is still quite impressive. "On the night that the young...

Photo: Spike Lee Presents President Obama with Custom Spiz’ikes

Last night, Spike Lee hosted a New York City fundraiser for President Barack Obama, and managed to tweet a pic of the Prez holding a brand new pair of Air Jordan Spiz’ikes in the forthcoming Olympic colorway. President Obama is a noted Chicago and Michael Jordan fan, and the gift from Spike was part of a special Presidential edition box set. Coolest President ever?

It’s Gingrich in South Carolina: NBC, FOX

Ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich, making his second comeback of the 2012 presidential campaign, will win the South Carolina Primary, NBC News projected moments after the polls closed. The Fox News Channel, which hosted a Monday night debate that helped Gingrich — he received a standing ovation for defending his description of Barack Obama as “the food stamp president” — was...
