The Giants' most feared defensive player is finally ready to be feared again. On Wednesday afternoon, after a practice session that he called his “best” of the season, Jason Pierre-Paul wanted everyone to know that. So before anyone could even ask about it, he proclaimed that he felt “great” and “awesome.” And then he served up a warning to this Sunday’s opponent, the Oakland Raiders. “For the past three years, I’ve been rushing the passer, you just see fear in the quarterback’s eyes,” JPP said. “You see fear in the tackle’s eyes. They respect me. They know when they hit the field, they have a problem. “And this week, they’re gonna have a problem.” A confident (but not “cocky,” he said) JPP wasn’t done. “Come this Sunday,” he said, “I’m rushing the passer, stopping the run. I’m gonna be all over that field. They better bring their ‘A’ game, that’s what I can tell you.” It was a welcome sign for a Giants team that has been waiting for JPP to awaken from his season-long slumber. Two years ago, a dynamic Pierre-Paul kick-started the Giants to an improbable Super Bowl run by blocking a potential game-winning field goal in Dallas. But he has struggled throughout this season, battling to regain his form after having back surgery in June. While he has felt better than he did last year, when he had “shooting” pains down his leg, he said he was still dealing with backaches this season. Partly because of that, he recorded just one sack in his first eight games this season, and just two weeks ago, he lamented that he might not regain his full strength and explosion until 2014.
