On Thursday, 4-time pro bowl quarterback Jeff Garcia spoke to USA Today and had some not so nice things to say about controversial Jets quarterback Tim Tebow while praising current Jets starter Mark Sanchez, who Garcia is a mentor to. “If there’s going to be competition at the position, it’s not going to come from Tim Tebow,” Garcia said during the interview. “Having Tebow there (last season) just became more of a distraction, more of a circus show. Obviously, it’s their decision. But from an outsider looking in, having Tebow there doesn’t bring anything positive. It just brings distraction. ”For Mark, the main competition is going to be with David Garrard and Greg McElroy,” Is this the last chance for Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez?(photo credit: new york daily news) Sanchez had a forgettable 2012, throwing 13 touchdowns to 18 interceptions and finishing the season with a dismal 54.3% completion percentage as the Jets struggled to a 6-10 record. But the question remains… Was Tim Tebow a distraction for the Jets and more specifically Mark Sanchez? No one can deny that the 2012 Jets team was  a three-ring circus from the very start. With the media frenzy surrounding Tim Tebow and the attention he got despite the fact that he didn’t even seem to be considered a backup in head coach Rex Ryan’s offense, it seems like Tebow was a big factor in the chaos without actually doing anything. He was even passed over on the depth chart for Greg McElroy when Rex Ryan did decide to sit his golden boy, Sanchez. Garcia, who is mentoring Sanchez as well as overseeing the comeback of former 1st overall pick (and arguably the biggest bust in draft history) JaMarcus Russell, continued to sing Sanchez’s praises during the interview. “Mark did a great job of really getting into the playbook,” Garcia said. “He has that determination, that attitude where he really wants to prove to himself more than anybody that he can be a great leader for that team and lead the Jets to great results.  When you’re a quarterback, you don’t need artificial competition. And it’s not fair to Tim to put him through all that. If there’s a place for Tim that gives him a chance to be a contributor in an offense with another team, let him go be that guy.” The Jets have yet to find a trading partner for Tebow, who plans on being at the team’s Florham Park, N.J. facility next week. Many doubt that he’ll still be in a Jets uniform come September. With the fate of Mark Sanchez’s job, as well as head coach Rex Ryan’s on the line, will the team continue with the chaotic media circus that they were in 2012? Or will media fodder like Tim Tebow be sent packing?   What do you think? Is Jeff Garcia right? Should Tebow-time be sent packing for Mark Sanchez’s own good?       The post Jeff Garcia to Jets: Drop Tim Tebow for the Sake of Mark Sanchez appeared first on DOWN & DISTANCE - Presented by Sports-Kings.
