On Thursday, as part of Mike Missanelli’s Football Roundtable on 97.5 The Fanatic, former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter called out ex-coach Andy Reid over his in-game coaching abilities, saying that he was often out-coached in big games.

"If it came down to both teams were even, talent-wise, I think the opponent's team would win if it came down to coaching," Trotter told Missanelli and ESPN's Sal Paolantonio. "Andy Reid got out-coached in a lot of games, man, a lot of big games," Trotter continued. "Time outs, running the football, you know."

His play-calling decisions also affected the psyche of the defensive players and coaches, according to Trotter: "As a defense, we understood we passed the ball too much. You know, there's times we're sitting over there like, 'Man, listen. Just get us a couple of first downs so we can get a break.' And I'm sure it frustrated (defensive coordinator) Jim Johnson also."

Trotter spent a total of eight seasons with the Eagles (1998-2001; 2004-2006; 2009), seven of them under Reid, including all four of his Pro-Bowl seasons and both of his All-Pro years. So how much does the 11-year-vet-turned-radio-host rate Reid as head coach? "On a scale of 1-10, 10 being great, I give [Reid] a 7-1/2 or 8 as a coach."

  • trotter will be trotting in some ally somewhere soon while Reid is still in the NFL
  • Most players never out last a coach no matter who there are.
  • Trotter hasn't said anything, we don't already know. Reid has been out coached in a lot of big games. It was time for him to leave. He'll do good in KC.
  • There is some bitterness there, yet many fans might agree. I am not an Eagles' fan nor hater, yet in their great years under McNabb both the play-calls and McNabb's execution were suspect.
  • You know, this Trotter guy, you know, gives Reid an 8 for a coach and you know, that's pretty good if, you know, you ask me. You know?
  • Trotter spoke his mind. And I am sure quite a few will agree with his statement. "Reid still in NFL" comment is nothing more than juvenile.
  • Trotter was a 7-8 linebacker. Sure, he spoke his mind and that is just fine, but look at the source. Reid stayed too long in Philly!
Typical prima-donna player, blame the coach because you can"t get the job (that you are paid VERY WELL to do) done.
  • Uh Jeremiah there's a reason you were released tool...You couldn't hack it anymore....
Oh and noone cares whether or not you want Kelly to coach the Eagles....Your opinion is a moot point...
  • Trotter needs to STFU. I'm a Cowboys fan, and I'd much rather have someone like Andy Reid calling plays, than that moron of a coach Dallas has in Jason Garrett...
  • To think that one of his players like Trotter would turn coat on Coach Reid baffles me. Andy Reid's teams accomplished a lot and went a helluva lot farther than any other besides the 1960s championship team. Every team member especially those on defense should have stepped up and did their position's job. That speaks volumes because Philly's defense let a lot of leads slip away. NO WONDER THE FANS ARE RABID WHEN THEY LOSE!!!!
  • Did he ever think that in those big games they lost that they, even Trotter himself, were outplayed?
  • If what trotter said is true, than andy reid was wrong in depending on trotter in those big games where trotter also came up short; not andys fault mcnabb choked in the super bowl. Yeh, reid is such a bad coach it took a mere four days for him to get rehired.
  • Jeremiah who? Jeremiah was a bull frog or Jeremiah has the trots? Trotter is such a loser. He should learn to STFU! Reid had a rough go at Philly basically because of crap players the GM signed like Trotter.
