Four years ago, Jeremy Shockey made sure that the New York Giants knew how much he didn’t care for the staff. This wasn’t too surprising, as he was often critical of the coaches during his 6 year tenure with the franchise. But after being away for a little while, he wants back in. Of course, not having a job will do that.
The world champion Giants lost two of their tight ends to ACL injuries during the actual Super Bowl, which meant the team was in the market for at least one FA, as both Travis Beckum and Jake Ballard will begin the season on the PUP list if the team holds onto them. The Giants signed former Cowboy Martellus Bennett to a 1-year deal, yesterday. However, even if the Giants had mot signed the former Cowboy, Shockey had no shot of returning.
Nobody in the organization will admit to it, but sources have told me that there was and always will be zero interest in having the often brash TE return to the meadowlands. For all of Shockey’s talent, he was constantly a locker room distraction, and a problem in the huddle. He did struggle go get along with teammates, especially with is QB, Eli Manning. Many believe that it isn’t a coincidence that Eli’s ascension to becoming an elite NFL QB began when Shockey was hurt late in the 2007 season. The Giants began their run shortly thereafter towards Super Bowl 42, with what seemed to be a much more confident Manning.
Former teammate, Amani Toomer, does not have kind words for Shockey, and kinda gives you a look inside to how the Giants feel about him as well:
@garymyersNYDN No!!Shockey”I will never play4 you again!”he yelled at jerry Reese in 08. Let him keep his word. Bad teammate, worse person.

Shockey, of course, responded.
There may be a few Giants fans out there that hopes for a reunion, but he is not worth it. He isn’t nearly the player he once was, and destroyed all bridges to East Rutherford long ago.
