Found February 19, 2014 on cover32 - Texans:
The Houston Texans have a major hole at the tight end position. With starting tight end Garrett Graham likely leaving via free agency, the Texans are going to have to fine a new one. Graham was a solid tight end, finishing with  49 catches for 545 yards and five touchdowns, but the Texans seem keen on letting him go. Today, Cover32 posted its list of the Top 10 free agent tight ends in this year’s pool. Luckily for the Texans, the tight end free agent class looks very promising with the likes of Dennis Pitta, Jimmy Graham, Jermichael Finley, Dustin Keller and Scott Chandler. Although Jimmy Graham will almost certainly be slapped with the franchise tag and re-signed by the New Orleans Saints, Pitta and Finley could definitely help out the Texans as they try to improve their offense. Multiple reports are saying that Dennis Pitta and the Baltimore Ravens are far off in contract negotiations, and the cap-strapped Ravens will likely have to let him go. Pitta appeared in just four games in 2013, but in 2012 he had 61 catches for 669 yards and seven touchdowns. and added 14 catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs when the Ravens won the Super Bowl. If Pitta’s asking price is too much, Finley would be another excellent option as tight end for the Texans. Although he’s going to have to recover from a possible career-ending neck injury, he’s one of the fastest and most explosive tight ends in the league. In just five games in 2013, he had 25 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns. His big-play ability could be a nice fit and take some of the pressure off of Andre Johnson. Texans fans, do any of these tight ends fit what the Texans need? Or should they try drafting one? Report: Ravens expected to tag Pitta if they can’t strike a deal

var ACE_AR = {Site: '898551', Size: '468060', CallType: 'IFRAME'}; We mentioned on Tuesday that the Ravens and tight end Dennis Pitta aren’t close to getting a deal done. According to the Baltimore Sun,  the Ravens will likely use the franchise tag on Pitta if they can’t sign him to a new contract prior to the start of free agency. Unless that financial...

Jimmy Graham and New Orleans Saints at odds

From the department of ‘we saw this one coming,’ Jimmy Graham and the New Orleans Saints will be fighting over the franchise tag. Graham and his agent believe he should be tagged as a wide receiver rather than a tight end, something the Saints don’t agree with. The difference between the two positions is almost $4.8 million for the 2014 season. None of this is surprising...

Top 10 free agent tight ends in the NFL

The tight end position has been going through an evolution of sorts in the recent years. A tight end has never been as dominant in the passing game as it has the last few years or so. Names like Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Jimmy Smithm and yes, even Dennis Pitta have been part of a near-revolution, if you will, of the position. That last name, in particular, carries the most...

With Davis in mind, 49ers should keep an eye on Graham, Pitta’s contract talks

With Vernon Davis under contract through 2016, the 49ers have no immediate need to sign a marquee tight end. That’s a great spot to be in. Game-breaking tight ends like Davis could become very expensive in the near future, as big names like the Saints’ Jimmy Graham and the Ravens’ Dennis Pitta lobby to receive the same financial treatment as wide receivers. Graham and Pitta...

Report: Jimmy Graham expected to file a grievance if he’s tagged as a tight end

var ACE_AR = {Site: '898551', Size: '468060', CallType: 'IFRAME'}; According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network,  Jimmy Graham plans on filing a grievance against the Saints if they place the franchise tag on him as a tight end. No progress yet for Jimmy Graham and #Saints. If, as expected, he’s tagged as a TE, expect an immediate grievance to be tagged...

Offseason success in New Orleans comes down to one deal

One of the biggest potential story lines of this off-season could be coming out of the New Orleans Saints’ front office. Jimmy Graham’s rookie contract expired after last season and General Manager Mickey Loomis is dealt with the task of resigning the All-Pro Tight End. The only problem however is cap space. Since Jimmy Graham is a superstar, he is most likely going to require...

Jimmy Graham to file grievance if Saints franchise tag him as a tight end

Tweet Jimmy Graham has thrived with the New Orleans Saints as a versatile tight end/wide receiver over the years, but having him line up all over the line of scrimmage may end up costing them a few million dollars. According to NFL.com’s Ian Rappoport, Graham will file an immediate grievance against the Saints if they try to designate him with the franchise tag for tight...

Drew Brees using twitter to court Jimmy Graham

The Drew Brees to Jimmy Graham connection is one of the most potent in the NFL, so it makes sense that they would at least attempt to be friends off the field to increase their rapport. With Graham’s looming contract discussions on everyone’s mind, Brees took to Twitter to remind Graham just who his friends are. He started with a little flattery: .@TheJimmyGraham looking shredded...

Mailbag: Jimmy stays, who’s going to kick, and Richard Sherman as a Saint?

In this week’s mailbag, I weigh in on the Jimmy Graham situation and tell you which Saints player you’d want with you in a fight. 1.) What are the odds Jimmy Graham is NOT a Saint next year? I (along with most pundits) would like to say that there is absolutely zero chance that Jimmy is not on the Saints next season.  Ultimately I think he will be, but you really just don...

Report: Jimmy Graham Expected to File Grievance Against Saints if Tagged as a TE

Earlier today NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham plans to file a grievance against the Saints if they place the franchise tag on him as a tight end…yup if they place the tag on him for the position he plays. No progress yet for Jimmy Graham and #Saints. If, as expected, he’s tagged as a TE, expect an immediate grievance to be...

Jimmy Graham to File Grievance If He’s Franchise Tagged as TE

This is going to be an interesting case. Graham is a tight end who lines up as wide receiver the majority of the time. Fine print in the CBA says franchise tags are based on % of plays you play the most at, so Graham is going to have a pretty strong case in my opinion. No progress yet for Jimmy Graham and #Saints. If, as expected, he’s tagged as a TE, expect an immediate grievance...

Saints, Jimmy Graham on the clock as franchise tag period opens

The clock is officially ticking for the New Orleans Saints to negotiate a long-term deal with tight end Jimmy Graham. Teams were allowed to place the franchise tag on one of their players beginning Monday. They have until the March 3 deadline to use the tag. The Saints will almost undoubtedly place the tag on Graham on or before that deadline. The tag is a one-year, guaranteed...

Drew Brees tries to smooth over Saints-Jimmy Graham riff on Twitter

Drew Brees has taken to Twitter to help smooth over the whole Saints-Graham-franchise tag mess going down in NOLA.

State of the Saints: Does New Orleans need another weapon?

Amidst the rumblings and ridiculous squabbling over whether Jimmy Graham is a wide receiver or tight end, we come to look at the group of receivers officially listed as such on the New Orleans Saints depth chart. It is true that in the Sean Payton-era no other Saints team saw a season with so little production from the position. Even the group of receivers in 2006—which featured...

Which Top 10 tight end could help Arizona?

We have released our list of the top 10 free agent to be tight ends and the Arizona Cardinals would certainly be in the market for one of them. Or any of them. The Cardinals have been perennially weak at the tight end position and could use an upgrade in the worst way. Jimmy Graham would help Arizona…and 30 other teams but the kind of money needed to lure him away from the New...
