The Browns’ first pre-season game was interesting. Deshaun Watson had a poor debut, Martin Emerson flashed some potential, and then running back Jerome Ford led the Browns to victory.

In the rushing category, Ford had 57 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. He even broke out for a 41-yard run.

His receiving stats were also pretty good. He had 45 receiving yards and one touchdown on four receptions. His one touchdown was also a pretty nice catch.

Ford was impressive, but it could be difficult for him to make the roster.

Jerome Ford Will Have to Compete For a Roster Spot

The Browns have a lot of depth at running back. They have Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, D’Ernest Johnson, Demetric Felton, and obviously Jerome Ford. If Ford continues to improve, someone like Felton could be the odd man out.

We also know that Kareem Hunt requested a trade, so if he does get traded then Ford will definitely be on the roster. Nick Chubb said he wanted Hunt to stay in Cleveland, so that is probably a reason why he is staying in Cleveland.

“He’s my best friend, on and off the field. He’s a great person to be around. I couldn’t imagine playing without him. I want him to be here, whatever they got to do to keep him here. I want to play with Kareem.”

Either way, it’s difficult to imagine Andrew Berry trading Kareem Hunt.

Even with all the problems the Browns have, Ford should be getting a good amount of playing time. The only worry is that Ford will still have to prove that he can consistently perform. But, we should get that answer when the Browns face the Eagles in their next pre-season game.

If he can keep performing well, he should be getting plenty of snaps this season.
