Days after the season ended, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he was going to make some painful changes, and he did.  He’s still making changes right now, but one of those moves was the surprise firing of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Ryan who produced a decent defense, even amid a ton of injuries said he was shocked to get the ax.   Jones has spoken publicly about that firing recently, and according to Pro Football Talk, it all came down tho Ryan’s defensive scheme, and the fact that Jones felt it was to complicated for his players to master. “Where we fundamentally came down with Rob is that his philosophy is about multiple scheme,” Jones said, via the Star-Telegram. “I think you have to skinny it down. Philosophically, I don’t think Rob believes in that.” Jones says he expressed those concerns to Ryan the year before, and that Rob Ryan did try to thumb it down some.  Still the results were the same. “I think Rob will tell you we had long visits about this in the off-season last year that there was too much scheme. He tried to cut it back and he did skinny it back, but it’s still a lot,” Jones said. “We just didn’t feel like at the end of the day Rob could skinny it back enough to our satisfaction that we could make plays.” Well there you have it.  Why couldn’t Jones, or Garrett just say that in the first place.  Injuries was the first excuse.  Different direction was the second. Just simply say your players could grasp such a complicated scheme.  No one will judge the Cowboys for that, right?
