Two days after Santonio Holmes painted an ominous picture about his return from off-season foot surgery the Jets moved the mercurial wide receiver off the Physically Unable to Perform List to the active roster. It was the latest odd chapter in an odd offseason for Holmes who admitted on Wednesday that he still wakes up every morning with pain in his surgically repaired foot. Although Holmes was impressive during a 20-minute pre-game route-running/pass-catching workout in shorts last Saturday at MetLife Stadium the veteran still sounded unsure about his timetable for return from his LisFranc foot injury. “Up until this point I don’t know” Holmes said at the time about whether he’d be ready to play any point this season. “I don’t know how to answer that question as far as missing the whole season. I have 16 weeks of football. At any point I could be ready to play. If not I would be willing to accept it.” Holmes said that the pain has been unpredictable which added to his uncertainty about his availability this season. He said that trainers were working on finding a comfortable shoe to help alleviate the pain. Holmes spent part of Friday’s practicing running in cleats at the team’s indoor facility. Wide receiver Stephen Hill told the News this week that Holmes was “very anxious” to return. “He’s definitely ready to come back. You can tell” Hill said. “Everything I hear from him everything he talks to me about is ‘Hey I want to get back on the field.’ That’s all he wants.”
