Dawan Landry played four seasons of ACC football at Georgia Tech. Originally redshirted to play quarterback for the Yellow Jackets, Landry switched to safety. Over his college career, Landry had 250 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 7 interceptions, and 4 fumble recoveries. Dawan Landry entered the 2006 NFL Draft and was selected in the 5th round (146th overall) by the Baltimore Ravens. Landry would make an impact right away, earning himself the starting job at safety alongside Ed Reed. He put up some solid numbers in his rookie season for the Ravens, under then-Defensive Coordinator Rex Ryan, collecting 69 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 interceptions (one was returned for a TD), and 11 passes defensed. During Landry’s third season in the NFL, he would suffer a near career-ending spinal concussion injury. Landry was making a tackle on Browns running back Jamal Lewis when he was injured. He would be deemed okay to return to the gridiron. Upon returning from injury in '09, Landry would post a career high in tackles (89), at that point in his career. Dawan also led the team in interceptions with four, which included a 48 yard interception return for a TD. In 2011, Landry signed a 5 year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Landry would only play 2 seasons with the Jags before being released by the team. Dawan Landry’s Career NFL Defensive Statistics: 559 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 12 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 35 passes defensed, and 3 defensive TDs After the New York Jets were unable to agree to a contract with younger brother LaRon Landry, they would need to find a replacement for him. The Jets signed Dawan Landry on April 9, 2013 in hopes of filling the void that LaRon left in the Jets secondary, while bringing in veteran leadership for a young Jets team. My Take: Dawan Landry is no LaRon Landry, but he has his own special set of skills. Where LaRon lacks in his defensive skills, Dawan makes up for that and vice versa. Dawan is not a box stuffer like his brother, nor is he a physical specimen like LaRon, but he is a ball hawker. LaRon’s presence in the secondary will surely be missed but with the addition of Dawan, we will have some insurance on mid-to-deep passes from opposing offenses. My predictions for Dawan Landry this season are pretty consistent with his typical season averages. I expect Dawan to have 85 tackles, 1 sack, 4 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 7 passes defensed. Don’t be surprised if Dawan runs one of his picks back for six.
