Rex Ryan is 'disappointed' about the end of Fireman Ed. Mike Vorkunov of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. The Jets' most famous fan tendered his resignation Sunday night, announcing that he was stepping away from his post -- though he would stay a fan.
"I was disappointed because I love that guys passion and energy that he would bring," Ryan said. "Hes a great fan. I really admire him. He was great."
Ryan repeated his admiration for Ed Anzalone, a New York City firefighter for two decades who became notable for wearing a fireman's helmet to games and leading fans in the stadium in a "Jets" chant.
