Quinton Coples and Aaron Maybin of the New York Jets have been fined by the NFL for separate hits on Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck last weekend. Coples, the Jets' first-round pick, was fined $10,000 on Friday for grabbing the facemask of Luck, the No. 1 overall selection, in New York's 35-9 win Sunday. Maybin was fined $7,875 for ''unnecessarily'' striking Luck with his elbow after blocking him during an interception return by Antonio Cromartie. The penalty wiped out Cromartie's touchdown. Detroit defensive end Lawrence Jackson was fined $15,750 for hitting Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick below the knees in the Lions' 26-23 overtime victory. Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson was hit for a $10,000 fine for simulating shooting a gun during a touchdown celebration. Minnesota safety Harrison Smith was fined $15,750 for a horse-collar tackle on Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III in the Redskins' 38-26 win. --- Online: http://bigstory.ap.org/NFL-Pro32 and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL

Sports Network: Luck and Weeden Renew Their Rivalry

The Sports Network takes a look at Andrew Luck and Brandon Weeden, who got to know each other the week leading up to their teams' clash in the Fiesta Bowl.  They also give a brief recap of their only head to head meeting to date: The 23-year-old Luck, a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist, threw for 347 yards and a pair of scores with one interception in that game, but came...

Luck not Above Growing Pains

No quarterback has come into the NFL with greater expectations than Andrew Luck. Colts Authority writer Todd Smith is so sure of his successful NFL future that he has set in motion a plan to follow every single snap of the Colts rookie signal caller, providing the most in-depth statistical breakdown of a quarterback's career ever put together. Luck, Colts improve to 3-3

Andrew Luck used his quick reactions and fleet feet to beat Cleveland on Sunday. He became the first Colts quarterback since 1988 to run for two touchdowns in the same game and won the first head-to-head matchup of this season's rookie starters, leading Indianapolis to a 17-13 victory over the Browns. Indy (3-3) got back to .500 in its third game under interim coach Bruce Arians...

Luck runs for two touchdowns as Colts defeat Browns 17-13

Andrew Luck ran for two touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday as the Indianapolis Colts moved to 3-3 on the season. The win against the Browns gave the Colts one more win then they had in 2011. The two touchdown runs by Luck were 3 and 5 yards. The Browns had two chances late in the game to win but were unable to convert on fourth down. Brandon Weeden threw for 247 yards...

Chandler Jones was going to be a Jet, but instead they took Coples

Quinton Coples insists he’s not competing with Chandler Jones, another rookie who plays the same position, and one who was drafted five spots after he was. They rush the passer from different spots, they have different responsibilities and they play in different schemes — the last of which Coples pegs as the main reason Jones has five sacks and Coples has 1 1/2.“They’re in...

Chappell: Entrusting rookie QBs can be bumpy ride, but payoff can be great

Good old Mike Chappell of The Indianapolis Star delves into the difficulties and benefits of entrusting the offense to a rookie quarterback.  While his completion percentage seems out of character, that's not necessarily the case. In his final two seasons at Stanford, Luck completed 70.7 and 71.3 percent of his passes. But he was a 56.3 passer in his first year as a starter...

NFL Rumors: Reggie Wayne Calls Indianapolis Colts Rookie QB Andrew Luck Abnormal?

Could there be animosity brewing in the locker room of the Indianapolis Colts? Word out of Indy this week is that Reggie Wayne was asked to describe rookie quarterback Andrew Luck through his first five games of the 2012 NFL season, and Wayne did not hold back in saying that Luck was “not normal.” Of course, he means not normal in a good way. “He’s not your normal rookie...

There was never a question about whose team this was, but you still need a little Luck. With Reggie Wayne off to one of the hottest starts of his career, it’s Andrew Luck who is the top benefactor of the Wayne experience. WFNY Podcast – 2012-10-20 – Talking Colts with a Colts fan

When you write sports at a website like WFNY for a while you get to know your own kinds of fans. As many of you know my house is divided from a football perspective because my wife grew up in Indianapolis. I spared you my wife being on the podcast, but my brother-in-law is very much a similar kind of football fan to what I think we cater to at WFNY, so I talked to him for about ten...

Vote: Which Jet Scares You the Most in This Sunday's Matchup Against the Patriots?

The Patriots and Jets will fight for the top spot in the AFC East this Sunday at Gillette Stadium, and getting win No. 4 won't be easy for either team. New England (3-3) is coming off of a 24-23 loss at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks while the Jets (3-3) defeated Andrew Luck's Colts in Week 6 by a 26-point margin. The Patriots won both matchups in 2011...

Idle chatter - on team changes and slumps

1. The Browns ownership change officially happened this week. In the short term, is it a distraction or a boost? Pat McManamon: Absolute, unbridled, unchangeable distraction, from day one until the day some sort of final determination is made on who runs the team and front office. This is nobody's fault. Jimmy Haslam has done his best to handle this properly, but the timing just...
