New York Jets general manager John Idzik was groomed in an organization built on the premise of competition bulding contenders, an idea he's ready to introduce in his first days on the job with his new team. Idzik, introduced last week as Mike Tannenbaum's replacement, will have control over the roster and personnel decisions. That includes the ongoing hot-button topic in New York -- the future of quarterback Mark Sanchez. "I feel comfortable with Mark being a Jet," Idzik told WFAN on Monday. "I told him we're going to add competition and everyone should be up for it. It's going to make Mark, and everybody else, better." The Jets failed to execute a similar tactic last winter, trading to acquire Tim Tebow from the Broncos after Denver signed free agent Peyton Manning. The Jets were one of the teams interested in Manning, but the feeling wasn't mutual. Tebow made headlines but was never in a playmaking position in the base offense. He s...

New Jets General Manager John Idzik Says He ‘Got a Really Good Feeling’ From Mark Sanchez for Quarterback Spot

Much of the sports world would agree that Mark Sanchez should not be the quarterback of the New York Jets. But when people go inside the team facility, something funny happens. People start saying strange things, and most of those people become Sanchez fans. New Jets general manager John Idzik has apparently joined that club and thinks Sanchez should still have a chance at the Jets’...

QB Zac Dysert on Jets' draft radar

With Mark Sanchez's future in New York tenuous at best, the Jets are paying close attention to Miami of Ohio University quarterback Zac Dysert.

NFL Rumors: New York Jets exploring quarterback options, Jamarcus Russell?

Newly hired New York Jets general manager John Idzik has put QB Mark Sanchez on notice. Despite saying in a radio interview that he is “comfortable” with Mark Sanchez as a member of the Jets, he expects to bring in competition for Sanchez this offseason. Mr. Idzik told WFAN that the team has had preliminary and exploratory talks with another quarterback and this name might not...

Jets kicking the tires on JaMarcus Russell?

You can't make this stuff up. The circus in the Big Apple keeps growing as it seems the New York Jets will never learn their lesson. The Tim Tebow experiment failed miserably, and while the Jets brain trust ponders what to do with the badly regressed Mark Sanchez, we get this quote from Conor Orr of The Star-Ledger: " More recently, after Tannenbaum was let go, members...

Report: JaMarcus Russell Gets Attention From Jets As Franchise Looks for Quarterback to Push Mark Sanchez

The Jets may be open to moving on from Mark Sanchez, but they’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to finding a suitable replacement. With this year’s draft unlikely to produce any strong quarterbacks, the Jets have had to look elsewhere in the league — or, in this case, elsewhere in the league from several years ago. The Jets have had “some very exploratory...

Put zero stock into talk of JaMarcus Russell, Jets

In the eighth paragraph of his Monday story about the New York Jets' plans to bring in competition for Mark Sanchez, Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger had a small tidbit about Gang Green having "very exploratory, informal" discussions about JaMarcus Russell. So of course, ProFootballTalk brought it to the forefront. Cromartie Thinks Sanchez Needs A Better Supporting Cast

As the Jets try to clean up their mess, the one consistent question that remains is what will the team do about Mark Sanchez. Many pundits assume he’ll only be on the roster because of his guaranteed $8.5 million salary this season.  Many expect him to get competition. One of his teammates who’s supported him since the beginning of this mess, Antonio Cromartie, thinks Sanchez...

Antonio Cromartie says Mark Sanchez needs more talent around him

New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie told the New York Post that new general manager John Idzik needs to get quarterback Mark Sanchez more help. “He needs a better supporting cast,” Cromartie said. “That’s something the new GM has to look at and evaluate as he’s looking at the roster. He needs to get Mark some help.” Cromartie stressed that they’re confident in...

Tannenbaum: I was responsible for Tebow trade, Sanchez contract

Mike Tannenbaum spoke to reporters for the first time Tuesday since being fired by the New York Jets on New Year's Eve. The former Jets general manager — who was piloting the Jets front office while the team fell into disarray — broke his silence to discuss his perceived failures on Super Bowl Radio Row in New Orleans yesterday. Tannenbaum didn't shy away from his two...

Report: Jets considered JeMarcus Russell

In a continued attempt to push starting quarterback Mark Sanchez, the New York Jets have had "exploratory, informal discussions" regarding former No. 1 overall pick JeMarcus Russell, according to a Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger Report. Similar to the thinking that led to the deal for Tim Tebow, the team remains concerned about Sanchez, who is guaranteed an $8.25 million salary...
