Hackett -- who failed to survive a full season as the Denver Broncos head coach -- has served as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars (alongside Jets head coach Robert Saleh) in the past, but most notably held the same position with the Green Bay Packers from 2019 to 2021. During that run, he worked closely with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who won the NFL MVP award for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
With Rodgers' future in Green Bay very much up in the air -- and New York seemingly very much in need of a new signal-caller -- the news of Hackett's hire sparked an already active firestorm of rumors of Rodgers potentially ending up with the Jets.
The #Jets have big decisions to make at QB soon. Now, they know who will be running the offense: It's Nathaniel Hackett, who had the NFL's No. 2 offense with Blake Bortles at QB in 2017 with Jacksonville and was GB's OC when Aaron Rodgers won consecutive MVPs in 2020 and 2021. https://t.co/jVxAOgRTYz

(Let the Aaron Rodgers speculation … continue.)
A gift to sports-talk radio for days to come: New Jets’ OC Nathaniel Hackett has a lot of friends with the Packers, for whatever that is worth.

According to insider Ian Rapoport, Saleh interviewed "about 15 people" for the job and Hackett has been the organization's top choice for "the last week or so."
Fans of "Gang Green" will have to wait and see if the Hackett connection will lead to them reeling in the four-time MVP quarterback.
