The New York Jets don’t have a clue about who the QB is that they drafted. Sure, they know his name is Geno Smith, but beyond that, it appears that their scouting of him is something that nobody else saw. According to ESPN New York, the Jets plan on using Smith as a change-of-pace QB in the event that Mark Sanchez earns the starting job for the 2013 season. If this scenario sounds familiar to you, it should. Last year, the Jets said the same thing about Tim Tebow when they brought him in. But the big difference between Tebow and Smith is that Tebow was a running QB, and Smith isn’t. Tebow played in offenses that played to his strength, which was carrying the ball. When Smith was involved in designed runs from the QB position, they often failed at West Virginia. He doesn’t have the instincts of a running QB. He’s as much of a pocket passer as Sanchez.
