New York Jets
Austin Howard felt more at home with the first unit Friday in his second day as the new starting right tackle for the New York Jets.
Howard got the starting nod Thursday, taking over for nine-year veteran Wayne Hunter.
''I'm on a line with three Pro Bowlers, and it can't get any better than that,'' Howard said. ''They're really helping me out. I got the extra time, both on the field and in the film room. I feel like I'm making progress and doing better.''
At 6-foot-7, 333 pounds, Howard is the biggest player on the Jets roster. The 25-year-old Howard was awarded the starting spot after Hunter got beat for three sacks in a 26-3 preseason loss to the Giants last Saturday night.
Hunter was part of a line last year that enabled quarterback Mark Sanchez to be sacked 39 times.
Howard looked solid in drills ahead of the Jets preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night. He was signed by the Jets off the Baltimore Ravens p...
BEST OF MAXIM
Yesterday TJ Rosenthal wrote an article here looking at how the New York Jets can utilize the speed in their offense, namely Santonio Holmes, Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley and Joe McKnight. Today TJ and myself take a closer look at what each player brings to the table -
Joe Caporoso - Holmes is an elite route runner and is explosive after the catch. He works best...
Dear New York Jets,
Please excuse Mark from football practice until you can provide pass protection for him so that he may live to see his 26th birthday.
To say that the Jets’ offensive line has played horribly would be an understatement. Abysmal seems appropriate as they have given up 12 sacks in two preseason games. RT Wayne Hunter has been benched...
Say what you will about the wild, shirtless affair that has been the non-quarterback battle for the New York Jets.
The final authority has spoken, and unless Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow are going to be facing each other on an NFL field anytime, Madden 2013 will have the ruling on who the better quarterback is.
Sanchez has a better player rating and gets the starting spot for the...
The Jets' offensive struggles? They're not entirely Mark Sanchez's fault because he doesn't have enough help around him. At least that's what one of his teammates thinks. Darrelle Revis, who has been a bit of a pain in the butt for the Jets in the last few years, is now questioning whether or not his team has done enough to aid its young quarterback. "You...
New York Jets wide receiver, Santonio Holmes, is scheduled to make his first appearance of the preseason against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday. According to Mark Sanchez the rift between the Holmes and himself is “ancient” history, but rumors are circulating via Twitter that the Jets may be looking to unload Holmes. Sure, Twitter rumors are [...]
While Cam Newton says he's a big Tim Tebow fan, he downplays the reunion on Sunday night with his former college teammate.
Newton says his focus this week isn't on old friendships but rather keeping the offense looking sharp when the Panthers (No. 20 in the AP Pro32) visit the New York Jets in what'll certainly be his last significant playing time of the preseason.
Today, Tim Tebow told Boomer Esiason that he believes last year’s performances validated him as an NFL quarterback (Credit: AP Photo)
Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason is so skeptical of Tim Tebow’s ability to play quarterback that Esiason thinks the Jets should cut Tebow. But today, when Tebow joined Esiason for a radio interview, Tebow said he believes he has already...
5. New York Jets Have Failed To Score A Touchdown This only preseason, as Rex Ryan will be the first to tell you. However, it is still a cause for concern when you don't score any touchdowns in the first two games and you have Super Bowl aspirations.Mark Sanchez hasn't necessarily had the worst preseason, as he is 13/17 for 80 yards. He does have the single interception...
The Jets trimmed their roster to 80 players by waiving guard Terrence Campbell, long snapper Derek Chard, defensive tackle Matt Hardison, cornerback LeQuan Lewis, safety Marcus Lott and wide receivers Dexter Jackson and Raymond Webber. Campbell, Hardison and Lott were undrafted rookies. Chard, Lewis and Webber were signed as free agents and Jackson was signed to a reserve/future...
New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes says that he feels ready to play this Sunday versus the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium. Given his absence from the first two preseason games and the offensive ineptitude displayed by the Jets in those contests, that’s welcome news to Jets fans. With Jeremy Kerley expected to be a game-time decision, the Jets might have something...
1) Jets: With Santonio Holmes injured and possibility of missing week one, the Jets do not have a veteran starter to play the outside. The Jets might also use this as a chance to steal a few pages from Miami and New England, not that Johnson was ever accused of becoming a pro in either system. Johnson might get a workout and sign a deal that he has to make the team to be guaranteed...
