New York Jets coach Rex Ryan admitted that running his mouth last season left his team running on empty.
Ryan guaranteed that the Jets would win the Super Bowl - and they came up woefully short, going 8-8 and failing to make the postseason.
"Looking back obviously it was a huge mistake to make that guarantee," Ryan said. “At the time we were coming off two championship games, I really thought it would be a thing that would actually motivate our team, you know to really talk about the Super Bowl, to focus on the Super Bowl.
"But in hindsight I think it put undue pressure on our team and we kind of lost focus and really we lost focus on what we do best.”
The Jets lost their final three games to finish out of the playoffs and the season ended with finger-pointing among some of the team's more high-profile players.
