Coach Rex Ryan says safety Eric Smith is ''day-to-day'' with a sprained knee ligament, and doesn't anticipate the New York Jets signing a veteran at the position to offset Smith's absence.
Smith sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee Friday night in the preseason opener at Cincinnati. He also injured his hip, but tests showed no damage. Ryan says Sunday that Smith is ''stiff and sore,'' but feeling better. He is unsure how long Smith will be sidelined but wouldn't rule out him returning during the preseason.
Ryan says wide receiver Santonio Holmes (ribs) is sidelined for practice, as is second-year receiver Jeremy Kerley (hamstring). Ryan says the team hopes Kerley will be able to practice for the first time in camp by the end of the week.

DRESSED TO IMPRESSED
Rex Ryan has dropped over 100 pounds thanks to successful lap band surgery, so he decided to show off his new svelte physique with an hilarious “I’d Hit That” t-shirt while getting photographed standing next to a very cute blonde. His teeth look stunningly white as well, but that’s probably less a product of having them whitened, and more to the fact that they aren’t...
New York Jets safety Eric Smith left last night's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals with an apparent knee injury. Eric Smith appears to have sustained an MCL sprain, as reported by Jenny Vrentas of the Star-Ledger. The Jets bolstered their safety position over the offseason with LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell, plus 2012 NFL Draft picks Josh Bush and Antonio Allen...
If there’s one thing we know about Rex Ryan, it’s that he always keeps it classy — always. As you can see from the photo above that Twitter user @AlexMarroquin8 shared on Friday, Ryan recently went out in public wearing a shirt that read “I’d hit that” across the front. Of course, the shirt is a direct reference to the game of baseball and has no hidden meaning whatsoever...
Thanks to our friends at Kissing Suzy Kolber for relaying a tweet from @AlexMarroquin8 featuring Rex Ryan in his ‘I’d Hit That’ t-shirt. It looks like a recent photo since Rex looks like he has AIDS and is dying. Alex isn’t exactly saying what bar this came from.
Now, while everyone is freaking out over how hot the chick is, we’re saying she’s a hard 6.5. Good smile...

Giants defensive end Justin Tuck doesn't seem concerned about the prospect of Tim Tebow and the Jets running plays out of the Wildcat in the teams' preseason matchup.
I don’t care how many procedures you have done to shrink your stomach. No matter what hipster chain or Abercombie and Fitch t-shirt. You’re still a gross and vile person, Rex.
PS – If you meet Rex Ryan you definitely ask him to sign your feet, right?
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis and Jets head coach Rex Ryan know one another from their days with the Ravens.
Lewis called Ryan on Friday morning to ask him to not use the wildcat during last night’s game. I’m not sure if Lewis made the request because quarterback Tim Tebow had a rushing touchdown in Cincinnati two years ago when he was with the Broncos...
Rex Ryan is unsure if he'll have star cornerback Darrelle Revis back in the New York Jets' secondary when the team plays at Miami on Sunday.
Ryan says Monday that he doesn't think ''you can assume'' Revis will be ready to go against the Dolphins after suffering what the Jets called a ''mild concussion'' in the season opener against Buffalo...
Here we go once again. It’s preseason, 31 teams are preparing for the upcoming season, and then there is the New York Jets preparing to take their three-ring circus show on the road. The only thing missing so far this off-season is another one of those ridiculous Rex Ryan guarantees and the New York Jets signing Barnum and Bailey.
This whole fiasco started with the signing...
