The New York Daily News reports that the Jets have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.25 million deal with former Lions quarterback Drew Stanton. The Jets targeted Stanton, the Lions second-round pick in 2007, shortly after the start of the free agency on Tuesday. Stanton flew to New Jersey on Thursday before coming to an agreement on Friday. Stanton, 27, had four career starts in four seasons in Detroit. He won two of his three starts in 2010 after getting thrust into the starting role after injuries to Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill.

New York Jets: Getting Closer To Action
It is easy to be frustrated at the moment if you are a New York Jets fan. The Buffalo Bills signed Mario Williams and have already been crowned the best defense in the AFC East but you should know better than anybody not to buy into March coronations, right? While your anger is justified at right tackle until a player not named Hunter or Ducasse is starting, the Jets do appear to...
Hill reportedly will re-sign with Lions
ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Lions appear to have retained their insurance policy behind starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Shaun Hill, a valuable backup to Stafford and emergency starter, visited the St. Louis Rams on Thursday and Friday but reportedly has informed Rams management that he has agreed to terms on a contract with the Lions.
It was reported in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch...
New York Jets Would Be Foolish To Sign Meriweather
Nobody is more aware or in support of the New York Jets upgrading their safety position than this website. However, signing free agent safety Brandon Meriweather is far from the right approach when it comes to fixing arguably the team’s weakest spot. If you are looking to sign a player who has seen their play has radically decline the past two years, is a penalty/fine drawing...
Mark Sanchez's 'Gutless' Comment Only Intensfies Questions About Ability to Lead Jets
The New York Jets had a season to forget last year. Sitting at 8-5 with their playoff fate in their hands, the Jets lost three straight games and missed the playoffs. However, that was only the beginning of their problems. Reports soon came out that the Jets locker room was in total disarray, peaking when anonymous members of the Jets called out quarterback Mark Sanchez, stating...
Mark Sanchez: Anonymous critics are ‘gutless’
Mark Sanchez has become a frequent target for the media and fans, but he was skewered more than usual this offseason. Former Jets defensive tackle Kris Jenkins said Sanchez needed to grow a pair and become a team leader. At least he attached his name to his criticism. The most notable criticism came from an anonymously sourced NY Daily News article, the contents of which were refuted...
New York Jets continue search for veteran quarterback
The New York Jets are continuing their search for a backup quarterback. Heading into free agency, it was speculated that the Jets organization would pursue free agent QB Chad Henne. Henne was a logical connect-the-dots option given that Henne’s former head coach, Tony Sparano is is the Jets current offensive coordinator.
Henne stayed in Florida, signing a two-year...
Dolphins Agree To Terms With Free Agent LB Jamaal Westerman
According to ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini, the Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with former Jets linebacker Jamaal Westerman. The 6'3", 255 pound three-year veteran registered 32 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a pair of forced fumbles last season. Westerman is a low-risk, high-reward signing. It's unclear what his role with the team will be, but based on his performance...
Lions looking to beef up offensive line through draft
The Detroit Lions are looking to improve their offensive line this offseason, and will apparently be looking for help from their incoming rookie class.
The Lions have already hosted three offensive linemen – Mike Adams, Kelechi Osemele and Brandon Brooks – for pre-draft visits.
Are the Lions targeting Mike Adams?
It’s worth noting that all three players tip the scales at a...
Jets QB Mark Sanchez Says All Is Well With Him And WR Santonio Holmes
Mark Sanchez says the Jets lost some of our identity on offense last season, and insists the rift between him and wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been smoothed over. Sanchez, speaking Thursday night before being honored by the Randalls Island Sports Foundation in Manhattan, says Brian Schottenheimers offense struggled after New York became enamored of its receiving corps...
Cowboys add safety Pool in free agency
IRVING, Texas (AP) -- The Dallas Cowboys have reached a deal with free agent safety Brodney Pool.
Coach Jason Garrett said Thursday that Pool is a very athletic safety who makes a lot of plays in the passing game. Terms were not disclosed.
Poole played the last two seasons for the New York Jets after five seasons with Cleveland, where he played for Cowboys defensive coordinator...
Schilens Joins Jets
Wide receiver Chad Schilens has agreed to a deal with the New York Jets. Contract details are yet to be disclosed.
Fantasy Spin:
The Jets are high on Schilens and feel he is even good enough to fill their need for a No. 2 receiver, but that is overly optimisic - going by his poor track record with the Raiders - and is more likely going to work as a sub-package weapon.
Jets Have Offer On The Table To FS Reggie Nelson
The Jets took a step closer on Saturday to filling their biggest area of need in free agency. Bengals safety Reggie Nelson finished his visit with the Jets after a productive visit with Jets officials, his agent Hadley Engelhard told the Daily News on Saturday. Nelson will now weight the Jets offer and make up his mind within 24 hours, Engelhard said. Nelson fits the profile...
Dinner for Two
At the heart of New York's chemistry issues, the rift between quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide out Santonio Holmes clearly attributed to the Jets demise in 2011.
