When the news came down that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree had suffered an Achilles tear back in May, it was thought to be a huge loss for the 49ers. Crabtree was the team’s no. 1 receiver and even with the addition of Anquan Boldin in the off-season it was considered a blow for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Crabtree had surgery the day after the tear and even though he is still a long way from returning to the field, head coach Jim Harbaugh let it be known that he is making good progress. Per, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. “Talking to the doctor, and talking to Michael, (I) feel very good about where he is right now,” Harbaugh said on Monday. (I) wouldn’t categorize it as ‘ahead of schedule’ because he’s just starting now to start moving on it. It’s been just healing so far. But it looks great. That’s the words of the doctors.” The 49ers will reportedly place Crabtree on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list tomorrow. According to Maiocco, before the regular season the team will then decided whether to place Crabtree on the reserve PUP list or Injured Reserve. With designation to return, the Injured Reserve list puts no rush on Crabtree. If he is placed on the reserve PUP list, he will need to return between weeks 7 and 13
