We all remember the now-infamous blackout that occurred during this year's Super Bowl. Thanks to a faulty power supply (and Beyonce's literal lights out halftime performance), the Superdome faded to black like the end of "The Sopranos," sending the entire CBS crew into a frenzy.

It was at that point that Jim Nantz was ready to take matters into his own hands.

Nantz detailed to Sports Business Journal how he nearly jumped out of the press box to help restore some order and get the game coverage back on track.

“That’s what I’m trained to do: I’m trained to cover events on the fly. Whether it’s news or sports, I’m ready to do it,” Nantz said. “I told Lance, ‘Look, I can jump over the front of the desk here. It’s not a far drop into the seats in front of me. I can hang onto the ledge and drop down 10 feet or so and I can safely then run down through the stairs and go down two or three levels and get onto the field.’”

CBS producer Lance Barrow wasn't as keen on the idea, telling Nantz to remain in the booth until power was restored.

“I look back on it now and I just wish I could have helped out,” Nantz said. “There was nothing I could do.”

Aside from the amusing visual imagery of Nantz repelling from the stands, his outright dedication to his job is commendable, and a major reason why he's one of the best in the business.
