A year ago at this point, Jimmy Clausen had started three games and played in five during his rookie season with the Panthers.
But with No. 1 pick Cam Newton breaking all sorts of rookie records and firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback, Clausen works with the scout team during the week and has yet to suit up in uniform on game days.
Clausen, the Panthers' second-round pick in 2010, has been inactive for all seven games -- a year after he went 1-9 as a starter under lame-duck coach John Fox.
"Yeah, it's hard. I want to play," Clausen said today. "But at the same time it's not my time right now. And what I'm here to do right now is to learn and to watch and learn from (No. 2 QB Derek Anderson) and the things Cam's doing, and help the team."
Clausen said he had not given much thought to his future, although first-year coach Ron Rivera said Clausen's future could be outside the organization.
