New York Giants defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.

Kennedy was the 12th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, as the St. Louis Rams selected him out of Penn State. He under-performed for the Rams and was traded to the Denver Broncos in June of 2007 in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2008 draft. Less than three months later he was released by the Broncos.

Since then Kennedy – who is pictured above apparently training for his future career – has bounced around, he has had stints with the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings, before being signed by the Giants this offseason.

The Giants are banged up defensively, and Kennedy will not be eligible to return until November 14. The 31-year-old’s suspension without pay leaves the Giants with only Rocky Bernard as a reserve at defensive tackle. Linval Joseph and Chris Canty are the starters, and backup defensive end Dave Tollefson can also play some tackle in a pinch.

This is pretty funny considering that back when he signed with the Giants Kennedy said the following:

“You as me who the best defensive tackle is in the NFL, I’ll tell you Jimmy Kennedy. Whether y’all believe it or whether I believe it in my head, that’s all it takes.”

So apparently the “best defensive tackle in the NFL” has just been suspended for using steroids.
