I'm not sure if all of you have witnessed the travesty now gracing the airwaves. Basically, it's a new DirecTV commercial that has Jimmy Kimmel walking around and talking about Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and his record-breaking rushing performance against the San Diego Chargers last season. I'm cool with that, except for the adjective Kimmel uses. The exact adjective used is escaping me, but I believe it was either "smashed" or "crushed." Whoa whoa whoa, Jimmy. The old record was set by Jamal Lewis, then playing for the Baltimore Ravens against his future team, the Cleveland Browns. Lewis set the record with 295 yards, surpassing Cincinnati Bengals running back Corey Dillon's record of I'm-going-to-say-about-270-some-yards (please correct me). Breaking a hallowed record by 20-some yards is pretty good. If Peterson "smashed" or "crushed" Lewis' record he must have really done a number on it. Oh wait, he rushed for 296 yards. One more measly yard. DirecTV must be rather desperate to introduce these types of exaggerations into their commercials. Or else Jimmy Kimmel likes his hyperbole.
