Apparently someone forgot to tell Joe Flacco that April Fool’s Day was on Sunday, not Tuesday.

That’s when he went on the air at a Baltimore radio station and said — we sh*t you not — “I assume everybody thinks they’re a top-five quarterback. I mean, I think I’m the best. I don’t think I’m top five, I think I’m the best. I don’t think I’d be very successful at my job if I didn’t feel that way. I mean, c’mon? That’s not really too tough of a question.”

Um.

(Searches for logical response)

(Stares at computer still attempting to process Flacco’s quote)

(Shakes head, furrows brow)

(Makes wild gesticulations)

Maybe Flacco was just trying to cull some of that Eli Manning magic. Last year some people chuckled when Eli suggested that he is in fact an elite quarterback in a radio interview — but then he went out and proved it in leading the Giants to the title with a slew of clutch performances late in the season and playoffs.

But Eli at least had the modesty and self-awareness to know that he wasn’t THE best quarterback in the league, or even his own family. Joe Flacco is either the cockiest asshole around or has already taken way too many hits and needs to sue the NFL immediately. (Given my limited life experience dealing with people from Delaware, I’m going with the former).

For the record, this past season Flacco ranked 18th in passer rating, 26th in completion percentage, 12th in yards and 13th in touchdowns. He did tie one legitimate top-five quarterback in one category, joining Tom Brady in 18th place with 12 interceptions.

The only difference is that Brady threw 19 more touchdown passes — not that he’s better than the legendary Joe Flacco.
