Joyce Grendel, a Senior at Independence High School took the prom plunge. Joe Haden said “yes.” In a story written by ESPNCleveland’s Will Burge, Grendel had yet to find a date for her school’s upcoming Senior Prom, asked Haden, via Twitter, if he would be her guest and he immediately obliged. “I didn’t have a prom date so I decided just to ask (Haden) just to see what he would say,” said Grendel. “So I wrote him (on Twitter) and he replied right away. It’s just really exciting. [...] I knew he was a like a really nice guy but I just thought he would be too busy,” said Joyce. “When he said yes I was like the happiest person on earth.” Per Burge, when it came time for Haden to attend his Senior Prom in Friendly, Maryland, he could not do so, having committed to the University of Florida and enrolling early to play spring football. He is planning on going to Joyce’s home for pictures and then his security will drive him, Joyce, and another couple to the prom. Holmgren goes on media tour promising ‘big jump’ for Browns in 2012

We’ve heard from Mike Holmgren several times over the last few months say that he expects the Browns to take a significant leap forward. Not just in ‘intangibles’ but in the win column. The Browns were 4-12 last season, and 5-11 in his first year as President of the team. In an interview on ESPN Cleveland today, Holmgren was asked by Tony Rizzo what happens if the team doesn’t...

Heckert: Running back will be a “very big positive” this season

Tom Heckert saying that the running backs will be a positive in 2012 isn’t much of a statement considering that the Browns took Trent Richardson third overall. But that’s not all he was saying when he talked to Mike Florio on PFT Live. I think it’s pretty safe to say we draft a guy third overall, he’s going to be the guy. But we do think we’re going to need extra backs...

Browns agree to deals with Benjamin, Miller

The Browns have signed two more of their draft picks to deals. WR Travis Benjamin and OL Ryan Miller agreed to 4 year deals today. The draft picks left unsigned are Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, Mitchell Schwartz, Emmanuel Acho and Billy Winn. The Browns would like to get these deals in place as soon as possible. [Related: Richardson would like deal in place by Friday]

Browns welcome 37 to rookie camp

Pat Shurmur held a 15-minute pre-rookie minicamp conference call with local reporters to discuss this weekends camp. Shurmur said he expected 37 players to attend, including all 11 of the teams recent draft choices and 15 undrafted free agent signings. Shurmur said the rest of the players would be young players still classified as rookies. Shurmur said the players would have physicals...

Browns Agree to Terms with Hughes, Smelley, Johnson, and Wade

The Cleveland Browns have agreed to terms with the recently drafted John Hughes, Brad Smelley, James-Michael Johnson and Trevin Wade with all four players getting four-year deals. Hughes, the third-round draft selection who drew much hand-wringing from fans, is the highest-drafted player to agree to terms with the Browns this off-season. His four-year deal currently comes with undisclosed...

Mike Holmgren admits the Browns drafted Weeden because Wright was taken

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren made an apperance on ESPN 850 WKNR in Cleveland with the Really Big Show (via SportsRadioInterviews.com) and admitted that they were targeting wide receiver Kendall Wright with the 22nd pick, but once the Titans drafted him, they settled for quarterback Brandon Weeden who was their plan B. “We went into the draft, particularly in the first...

Brandon Weeden Must Earn Starting Job for the Cleveland Browns

“We drafted a young quarterback that we think can come in and play right away, but we’re not just going to hand him the football. I still love Colt McCoy, but we had a chance to get a mature quarterback who has a chance to come in and contribute right away. Whether that happens or not we have to let it play out. We have to let them compete. We have to let them play and see what...

Report: Browns DT Phil Taylor injured

John Telich is reporting that Cleveland’s DT Phil Taylor is getting an MRI to determine if he has a torn pectoral muscle. The injury apparently happened today at the team facility, during off season workouts. If it is a muscle tear, it could be a 6 month injury. More details as they become available.

Shurmur: Browns' Weeden has no guarantees

Browns first-round pick Brandon Weeden isn't guaranteed a starting spot. Then again, neither is first-round pick Trent Richardson. But logical reasoning indicates both are favorites to be in the backfield for the opener. Coach Pat Shurmur said no one is guaranteed a starting spot, especially rookies. "I think that is the speech I give all of the rookies," Shurmur...

Browns’ Phil Taylor may have suffered a torn pectoral muscle

According to John Telich of FOX 8 in Cleveland, Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor suffered an injury to his left pectoral muscle while working out at the team facility.  There’s a good chance he tore the muscle.  He’s scheduled to undergo an MRI in order to determine the severity of the injury. As a key run-stopper on the Browns defense, Taylor recorded 59 tackles, 1 forced...

Browns DT Phil Taylor Injured?

Since the Browns drafted Trent Richardson & Brandon Weeden, there has been a lot of optimism & excitement in Cleveland. Misplaced in my opinion, but optimism nonetheless. I hate to go all “Adam Schefter” on you… And at the risk of sounding like a self important douche… I’m going to do this anyway. Per a [...]

Draft Grades: Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns hit a home run with their first selection… and it was all downhill from there. The Browns entered the draft with 13 picks – an opportunity to completely change the direction of this floundering franchise – but whiffed in such a way that it could cost Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert their jobs in the not-so-distant future. Even taking into consideration the...
