Santa Clara officials have given former 49ers superstar quarterback Joe Montana approval to begin negotiations with the city. Montana wants to build a hotel and entertainment complex across from the 49ers new stadium. The project covers a total of 8 acres, including 2 of city-owned lots. Montana says he has money for a four-star hotel, a sports bar, an upscale restaurant and additional entertainment uses. The complex would open before the 2014 NFL season, which is the season San Francisco will be playing in the new stadium.
The San Jose Mercury News reports that the city Council voted 4-2 on Tuesday in favor of Montana’s group. The two councilmembers who voted against the idea believe the city should allow all potential developers to develop the land instead of only working with Montana.

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers was a guest on Mayhem in the AM on 790 The Zone in Atlanta (via SportsRadioInterviews.com) and was asked what it’s like to play for head coach Jim Harbaugh.
“It’s fun. He’s a little crazy,” said Rogers. “He do things different than, I would say, a normal head coach. You’ll see the guy holding field goals for...
A.J. Jenkins was projected to go in the second round by the majority of scouts, and he was the definition of a reach in the first round. The 49ers have taken some significant heat for the selection, but I don’t have a major issue with it outside of the fact that they probably should have traded down to the early second round if they really wanted Jenkins.
Jenkins is an explosive...
The 49ers enter training camp next month in a role completely reversed from where the franchise was last summer. When the lockout lifted last July, the team was waiting to install new offensive and defensive systems and waiting for a college coach, in Jim Harbaugh, to take over. The results -- a surprise 13-3 season, NFC West title and a fumbled punt from appearing in the Super...
Joe Montana isn’t going to lead any fourth-quarter comebacks in the new stadium the San Francisco 49ers are building in Santa Clara.
But the Hall of Fame quarterback is leading a bid to place a luxury hotel smack dab across the street from the new stadium. Montana’s group got a green light from the Santa Clara City Council, according to the San Jose Mercury News, to begin exclusive...
The 49ers’ situation as they enter training camp next month is completely reversed from a year ago, when the team was in suspended animation like the rest of the NFL. The struggling Niners were in a state of flux worse than others as they waited to install new offensive and defensive systems and waited for a college coach in Jim Harbaugh to take over – the team’s fourth head...
Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins can pressure the quarterback. Wait. You've heard that one before? Well it's true and the football mavens at Pro Football Focus have generated a statistic...
.1. Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots: 1327 yards and 17 TDs (plus a rushing score). Gronk is ridiculous. He got paid, but I don’t think that will slow him..2. Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints: Hard to argue with 1310 yards and 11 TDs. He’s become Drew Brees’ favorite target, which is always a good thing..3. Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers: Really blossomed during...
