Johnson Ready For 'Most Important Day of the Year'
USA TODAY Sports

The day is here -- the Las Vegas Raiders will finally be taking the field in pads in Tuesday's training camp practice.

It's a day every NFL player looks forward to all offseason, a day that all but officially confirms football is back.

No Raider is more excited than Jakob Johnson, though, whose job as an NFL fullback is to take on and overcome contact in the trenches.

"It's the main part that I wait on every offseason," Johnson told media members on Monday. "So, a big work day tomorrow. We'll see where we're at with the run blocking and yeah, looking forward to it."

Not only is it an exciting day, but Johnson views is as one that is crucial to the season overall.

“I mean, it's the most important day of the year, right?" he said. "The first day of pads, real football starts. All the stuff that we X-ed and O-ed out all year, we're finally putting the metal to the floor and getting in there. So, yeah, for me, that's the most exciting part about training camp. And once we cross that we can get back to the third down passes and all that stuff. But the first day of pads is important.”

Johnson enters his second year with the Raiders, having spent his first three NFL seasons with the New England Patriots.

He played in all 17 games last year, having totaled 301 offensive snaps and 151 snaps on special teams.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
