Glorify the Past:
SAN DIEGO – Sixth-year defensive tackle Travis Johnson signed his one-year contract tender Wednesday.
One of five restricted free agents unsigned before Mini Camp, Johnson already was practicing with the team.
“Business as usual,” Johnson said. “I was going to be here regardless of whether I signed it or not. I went upstairs to go ahead and get it out of the way.”
Johnson, beginning his second season with the Chargers, played in 13 games last year and finished with 16 tackles and a pass deflection.
Asked about his decision to practice despite his unresolved contract situation, Johnson said he didnÂ’t consider anything different.
“Where else would I be?” he said. “Football’s my job. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
