The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are featured in Wikipedia’s MRSA page, got word late Saturday that cornerback Johnthan Banks was cleared to play with the MRSA infection. After tests done by a specialist from DICON, Banks was confirmed to have the infection but does not pose a risk in transmitting it to others. After joining the Buccaneers in the whole MRSA situation, the league and union released a joint statement. The NFL and NFLPA have worked together in response to the MRSA matter in Tampa Bay. The jointly retained specialist has met with the team, supervised the inspection of the facilities, conducted medical examinations and agrees with the team medical staff that Mr. Banks does not pose a risk of transmission to other players. The specialist also met with team officials from the Eagles. All players have been advised of the process and we will continue to work together to jointly monitor the situation. What may have helped Banks’ situation is that he alerted the team during the week of the potential infection. They may have caught it in time to contain it just enough to where he is not a walking risk factor.
