GREEN BAY, Wis. -- One year after being released from prison, Johnny Jolly is one week away from continuing his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers. As the Packers began their offseason training activities this week, Jolly was absent. But as Green Bay went through Tuesday's practice, Jolly sent a tweet to a Packers fan saying that he would rejoin the team on May 28. Though coach Mike McCarthy did not confirm that date as being Jolly's arrival in Green Bay, the now-30-year-old defensive lineman will soon be competing on the field for the first time since January 2010. "When Johnny's situation, his process is completed, when he gets up here, then I'll have more information for you," McCarthy said. "He is still going through the process." Jolly was indefinitely suspended by the NFL in 2010 after being arrested multiple times. Jolly was first arrested in 2008 for possessing at least 200 grams of codeine. After the 2009 season, Jolly was arrested on another drug charge, which prompted the NFL to take action. In November 2011, Jolly was sentenced to six years in a Texas prison after violating his probation for a drug conviction. However, only six months into that sentence, Jolly was released from prison after being granted "shock probation," which is a program that first-time prisoners are eligible for when experiencing the shock and trauma of being locked up. As part of that decision by the judge, Jolly was required to serve 10 years of shock probation and perform 200 hours of community service. The NFL informed Jolly on Feb. 25 that his indefinite suspension would be lifted, officially reinstating him on March 4. Jolly was originally due 2.5 million for the 2010 season, which could have carried over to this year. But in March, the Packers restructured Jolly's contract to pay him 715,000 for this upcoming season. Green Bay drafted Jolly in the sixth round in 2006. He played four seasons with the Packers, starting all 16 games in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Follow Paul Imig on Twitter.
