Panthers coach Ron Rivera says star linebacker Jon Beason is back at practice but questionable for Sunday's game at Atlanta. The three-time Pro Bowl player sat out most of the week with shoulder and knee problems. He practiced on a limited basis Friday. Rivera says he'll see how Beason recovers from practice before deciding at game time if he'll suit up. If Beason can...

Steve Smith regrets that his conversation with Cam Newton went public

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith told the media on Wednesday that he should have  kept his conversation with quarterback Cam Newton private. “I shouldn’t have said anything,” Smith said, clarifying later that he meant he shouldn’t have said anything to the media, not to Newton, per Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer. “So that really falls on me. Hey, sometimes...

Cam Newton downplays Smith's criticism

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Like brothers, Cam Newton and Steve Smith have already moved on after a brief moment of not seeing eye to eye. Newton downplayed the criticism he received last week from Smith, saying he and his Pro Bowl receiver are still "on good terms" entering Carolina's showdown at Atlanta on Sunday. Smith told reporters last week he chided Newton on the...

Cam Newton: Will he lead or recede?

The Panthers’ 36-7 loss to the Giants was one of the most embarrassing in franchise history. Still, it’s only one loss – regardless of how much they were outplayed. I have faith that the inferior game planning, poor tackling or shoddy blocking can be fixed. But the real question is, can they repair Cam Newton’s attitude? My fellow Panthers 101 writer DJ Slotkis published...

Cam Newton gets mocked by Charlotte Observer editorial cartoon (Picture)

The first three weeks of the NFL season hasn't exactly been kind to Carolina Panthers second-year quarterback Cam Newton. After an embarrassing performance against the New York Giants last Thursday night, it appears that one local newspaper decided to take a shot at Cam in an editorial cartoon. Watch as the cartoonist for the Charlotte Observer mocks Cam's Superman...

Carolina Panthers: Week 4 NFL Power Rankings (#19)

Last week: 22 (+3) Record: 1-2 The Panthers looked horrible at home on Thursday Night, but they were the inferior team and superior, veteran, proven teams always have the advantage over teams like the Panthers. The good news is that they still rank 3rd in the league in yards per play differential. They’re getting killed in turnover differential, with a -6, tied for worst with the...

Charlotte Observer cartoon mocks Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton

Cam Newton is probably wishing he hadn’t been sulking on the bench at the end of last Thursday night’s loss to the New York Giants.  Since then he has been ripped by the media, and been openly criticized/advised by his teammates.  This cartoon in the local paper is certainly not going to make him feel any better or help him move on anytime soon.  Newton seems to be the victim...

Panthers' slow starting defense needs to step up

The Panthers need to avoid another slow start Sunday to have a better chance of upending the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons. That's something they haven't done this season. The Panthers haven't shown up ready to play and have allowed opponent to score a touchdown on the opening possession in all three games. The Panthers (1-2) recovered in Week 2 to beat New Orleans, but...

Falcons' strength is Panthers' weakness

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. Its never good when one teams weakness aligns with its opponents strength. Thats the situation the Carolina Panthers are in this week when they visit the Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia Dome on Sunday for the Falcons first NFC South game of the season. The 3-0 Falcons rank third in the NFL in scoring at 31.3 points per game while Carolina ranks among the bottom...

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons: Three Bold Predictions
