Steelers Thursday Injury Report: Dwyer Practices, Harrison & Polamalu Don’t

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued their practice preparations on Thursday for their upcoming game Sunday against the New York Jets and the practice participation injury report shows that linebacker James Harrison (knee), safety Troy Polamalu (calf), tackle Max Starks (illness) and linebacker Stevenson Sylvester (knee) did not practice. Harrison reportedly said on Thursday that...

Onward Steelers; Rainey’s Utilization Will Increase With Experience

Chris Rainey made his NFL debut Sunday night and left much to be desired but I certainly don’t blame him or anyone else for that matter. The Steelers gave him the ball on a traditional running play and another where misdirection was the key and resulted in a seven yard gain. His only reception was on a poorly developed screen where Rainey was simply swallowed up by the tall trees...

Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer To Get More Carries

Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer will get more carries Sunday against the Jets, although according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. And, naturally, if Isaac Redman plays well, that could change based on his performance early-on. “I thought Jonathan Dwyer provided a spark play and represented himself well and will probably get an increased opportunity because...

Steelers Miller, Sanders, and Cotchery could be keys to offensive success vs Jets

As the New York Jets come to Heinz Field this Sunday for the home opener, there are several key matchups that we’ll explore the rest of this week leading up to the game. One of the more interesting ones to keep an eye on is how the Jets secondary will match up with the Steelers Wide Receivers, as well as how Rex Ryan’s defense will handle Heath Miller. At the onset you might...

Steelers Broncos Game Rewind – Second Half Notes

I have already posted my notes from the first half of the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-19 loss Sunday night to the Denver Broncos and below are my second half notes. Ben Roethlisberger throws behind Jonathan Dwyer on first play of the second half. Had it been caught it would of gone for good yardage. ... and there is our Willie Colon false start. Luckily Roethlisberger converts the...

Steelers Rumors: Rashard Mendenhall was a Full Go at Practice

Just yesterday there was talk that current second string running back Jonathan Dwyer was set to receive more carries it seems that game plan might be put into question. Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall was a full go at practice on Wednesday, this according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.   Mendenhall was last years starting running [...] [[ This is a content summary only. The Agony Of A Losing Season: Steelers Solid Since 2003

By Jeremy Hritz It’s been a long, long time. Eight seasons to be exact. The year was 2003, and it was the last time the Pittsburgh Steelers finished a regular season with a losing record. That season, with the fragile Tommy Maddox at the helm, the Steelers limped into the offseason with a 6-10 record. Since that time, the Steelers have enjoyed an era of excellence marked...

Chris Rainey Disappointed He Wasn’t Allowed To Return Punts Against Broncos

One of the big surprises in the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-19 loss to the Denver Broncos Sunday night was that wide receiver Antonio Brown returned punts in the game instead of rookie running back Chris Rainey. Perhaps this was just head coach Mike Tomlin and special teams coach Amos Jones sending the rookie some sort of a message early in the season as the decision appeared to catch...

Steelers getting up to speed on no-huddle offense

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is enjoying the freedom of playing in new offensive coordinator Todd Haley's no-huddle system. He knows, however, that it's going to take awhile for it to become second nature. Roethlisberger passed for 245 yards and two touchdowns against one pick in a 31-19 loss at Denver last week. The Steelers controlled the ball for more than...

Rashard Mendenhall was a full go at practice

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall fully participated in practice on Wednesday. So it’s not just Adrian Peterson: Steelers said RB Rashard Mendenhall was a full participant in today’s practice. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 12, 2012 Mendenhall practiced last week, but was inactive for last Sunday’s loss to the Broncos.

Harrison donates 100k to Kent State

The weight room in the indoor field house at Kent State University will soon be named after Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison. A donation of 100,000 will do that. Harrison, an Akron, Ohio native who played at Kent State before embarking upon a unique, winding NFL journey that's taken him from street free agent to NFL Defensive Player of the Year, had his 100,000...

Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley Says Team 'Won't Be 0-2' Following Jets Game

Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley was reminded by a Pittsburgh reporter today that the team has not started the season 0-2 since 2002. Woodley, though, ratcheted up the rivalry by saying that won't be the case. "We won't be 0-2," Woodley said, via Ken Laird over in Pittsburgh. He went on to say that the mindset is not to start the season off poorly every year...

Steelers Hoping LB James Harrison Can Play Against Jets

James Harrison is closer to returning to the Steelers. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday the five-time Pro Bowl linebacker worked out Monday, will run Wednesday and hasn’t been ruled out of playing Sunday against the New York Jets. Harrison hasn’t played since last season and has practiced only sporadically because of a left knee injury. Last week, Harrison practiced...

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Jets: Keys to Victory

Sunday’s match-up between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets features two teams with something to prove to the rest of the league. The Jets are looking to prove that last week’s 48-28 thrashing of the Buffalo Bills was no fluke. While the Steelers, much like last year, are looking to prove that they haven’t lost a step after another opening day defeat, this time at...
