Jordan Morgan 2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Strengths

• Excellent size and length for the left tackle position. Plus athlete with light feet, outstanding balance and lateral agility.
• Comfortable and efficient kick slide with good knee bend and balance. Loose core with easy lateral movement.
• Showed a comfortable mirror in pass protection, staying with his fundamental technique and clean footwork. 
• Excellent awareness and accelerated vision in pass protection recognizing and reacting to stunts and pressures.
• Mobility and balance getting outside, tracking second- and third-level defenders in the pin-pull and screen games.
• Played more of a finesse game than a strong power game. A movement athlete more than a country-strong left tackle.
• In 2023, competed and battled as a run blocker. In the run game, he showed excellent play strength with heavy hands.
• Play strength and heavy hands showed up on angle, leverage and drive blocks, such as kickouts and down blocks. 
• Showed good athleticism and mobility to make blocks on the move in the run game. Fluid and flexible in space.
• Effective in 1-on-1 pass protection with desired lateral range, strike timing and anchor strength to win.
• Showed an understanding of hand usage in pass protection with the timing to re-set his hands when needed. 
• Effective mirror and re-direct in pass protection when engaged early in down minimizing impact of short arms.
• Excellent athleticism to get out in front in the tunnel screen game. Balance and body control to strike on the move.

Weaknesses

• Needs to learn to better execute kick slide with his left foot. Tendency to step in place or gain little ground. 
• Tendency to bend at the waist just before contact when challenged with speed-to-power and on the high side.
• Too many reps in his more vertical pass sets in which he dropped his head just before contact, losing vision.
• He is late with his hands at times in his deeper pass sets, allowing rushers to get inside of him and creating balance issues.
• Struggled at times in pass protection with inside counters. Showed a tendency to over-set with balance issues.  
• Needs to get stronger throughout his body to be more effective anchoring versus speed-to-power pass rush.
• In 2023, again saw wide and late hands in pass protection allowing rushers to get into his chest and move him.
• On pass protection snaps, he was too upright out of his two-point stance, minimizing the length of the kick slide and opening the edge.
• At times, in pass protection, he did not kick slide to gain distance to get to his spot with the needed balance and base.
• At times, he bent at the waist and dropped his head when challenged to the high side. Outside foot got too far inside. 
• Lateral range on vertical sets could be seen as an issue. Must be able to pass protect 1-on-1 on third down.
• Some vertical pass protection reps where he over-set, leaving him vulnerable to inside cross face counters.
• Had some technique and balance issues when he needed to anchor with strength versus speed-to-power rush.
